Dr. Sontti is currently an Assistant Professor in the Chemical Engineering Department at the Indian Institute of Technology Dharwad (IIT Dh). Prior to joining IIT Dharwad, Dr. Sontti worked as a Post Doctoral fellow with Prof. Xuehua Zhang (Associate Editor of Soft Matter Journal and The European Physical Journal E) in the Soft Matter and Interfaces group, Chemical and Materials Engineering Department at the University of Alberta- Canada. Before that, Dr. Sontti worked at Polytechnic Montréal- Canada as a Postdoctoral Fellow with Prof. Jamal Chaouki in the Process Engineering Advanced Research Lab (PEARL) at the Department of Chemical Engineering.
Dr. Sontti research interest includes the broad area of Fluid mechanics, Multiphase flows, Microfluidics, Complex Fluids, Fluidization/Gasification, Transport in porous media, Pyrometallurgy Process, and PEM fuel cells using advanced computational techniques. At the University of Alberta, mainly worked on CFD simulation on slurry transport in a horizontal industrial pipeline. In addition, experimental studies on microbubbles enhance bitumen recovery from highly concentrated tailings in a lab-scale pipeline loop.
Dr. Sontti pursued Doctoral studies (Ph.D.) under the supervision of Prof. Arnab Atta in Multiscale Computational Fluid Dynamics (mCFD) Laboratory, Chemical Engineering Department at Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur in 2019. His doctoral studies research is on "CFD studies on bubble/droplet formation in microchannels." The fundamental understanding of gas-liquid and liquid-liquid flows at the micro-scale level is systematically explored in different non-Newtonian fluids. Dr. Sontti's journey towards pursuing research as a career option began with joining the Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati for my postgraduate studies in 2011.
Dr. Sontti post-graduation at IIT Guwahati, as part of his M.Tech thesis work, he have worked on the Absorption of CO2 into Aqueous Blends of Amines under the supervision of Prof. Bishnupada Mandal at Chemical Engineering department-IIT Guwahati. Furthermore, he always try to be very passionate and enthusiastic, raising thus his research interest.
