I worked as the Prop Master for this Berkeley Carroll performance
In this high school production of, "She Kills Monsters" I am working as the prop master. That means that I must source design and create these props with a team of people. This would be my first show I would design the props on my own. The props would include weaponry for all characters ranging from monstrous bugbears and demon princes to high-ranking paladins and mages. This required a lot of planning and foresight to create satisfactory weaponry, as well as be on time.
I learned many things about weaponry on stage, for example how you must take into consideration the choreography of the individual actors so that the weapon could properly fit with the movements, as well as
I worked with NEXGEN Theatre company in Theatre Row where I worked as the Costume Setter, Prop Manager, and Assistant Stage Manager.
This production took place during the summer break of my junior year of high school. I was taken in by the Nex Gen Theatre company and I initially worked as the costume setter. This required me to help to organize the clothing, sequence when the quick changes need to be done, and the best course of action when doing so. The highlight of this job was dressing Angel, the drag queen, as you can see in the leftmost image. There were 3 sets of wigs that I had to have Angel wear throughout the show, alongside 5 sets of outfits. To the right of Angel is Joanne, another character whose costumes consisted of many layers, which was complex to put on in a timely manner. But with enlisting help from actors the costume changes went smoothly
Given limited staffing, I became the de facto props manager. I was responsible for organizing the props table and making sure the cast used props safely and responsibly. Furthermore, the lack of technical staff then required me to take on the responsibilities of an assistant stage manager. I was responsible for managing call times, as well as making sure equipment and transitions went smoothly.
The staffing of this show added a lot of stress to production, but this gave me tremendous experience in managing multiple roles simultaneously.
I worked as Prop Master for this Berkeley Carroll performance.
This production was during the fall semester of my junior year of high school. As the Prop Master, I had to source all of the props and organize them. This show needed almost all of the props to be real and usable to an extent. The use of practical props made it very easy to ask actors and the production crew to bring in any empty bottle of shampoo, conditioner, lotion, and other toiletries on top of the bedding, even if it needed persistence in making sure they bring these items in time.
This show also needed every prop that will be used in the show to be preset within the 9 camper's luggage which they will bring on at the beginning of the show. This required a great amount of planning and preparation. Part of that preparation would be looking at the photos to the left to get a better sense of what items needed to be packed, this would also help on days that I wasn't able to be there for the preshow as other stage crew members can identify the items easier.
My first ever theatrical show
Yes, this show is based on the board game, Clue, it is a truly magnificent show. As this was the first theatrical show ever I watched/help produce I did not have much documentation of this show, especially as most of it was done on physical paper that was lost to time. However, I still include it here to illustrate my beginnings within this field and what gave rise to my love of theater.
I worked as a prop manager and stagehand for this production. This entailed keeping track of props throughout the show as they are handed off to multiple actors, as well as setting up and triggering the multiple passageways the actors must go through
