FAQs

  • Family members can watch every class

  • No uniform

  • Exams are optional (and offered differently to the traditional way)

1. Where are the classes held?

Classes are held at Solway Primary School, in the hall.

2. When the classes held?

On Wednesdays in term time.

We teach the Dance NZ Made Syllabus for Hip Hop, Performance Jazz and Contemporary. Ballet classes are designed to meet the needs of the current class group. We are also full time School Teachers so our class times are set to allow us to meet our school commitments during the week.

3. How much are the classes, how do I pay?

One term fee per child of $75. We send you an invoice and you can pay online or with cash at class. You can pay weekly or once a term, any way that suits you and your budget.

4. Are there any other costs?

There is costume charges during the year. We shop for or sew show costumes for you and you KEEP them. We provide the costumes, YOU own the costumes and YOU keep them after the show. Our show is for children to have a performance experience on the stage and we don't believe that requires a big spend on fancy costumes, or a stressful experience for families. It is about the dancing and performing EXPERIENCE.

If you are sitting Performance Levels there is a charge for those too.

5. Can I watch the class?

YES, you can watch every class. We are in a school hall so there are plenty of seats for everyone. We believe family members should be invited in to watch classes, just like when your children play sport. We ask that you do NOT take photos or videos of other people's children please, and do not share our classes on social media please.

6. Do you have exams?

We offer performance levels for students over 5 years old (in hip hop, jazz and contemporary) with our Dance NZ made syllabus and a visiting adjudicator. Children go in to the room in groups and all dance together. Dancers receive a marking sheet with encouraging comments and a certificate. There is a cost for the Levels day. The cost goes directly to the adjudicator. Levels are held out of school time. All students learn all of the syllabus work in class and then families decide if they wish to have the Levels day experience or not. This is an optional extra.

7. How do I enrol? What happens with the information on my enrolment form? https://sites.google.com/view/solwaydance/enrol-now

Enter your details on our short enrolment form. This gives us your contact details. We use your email address to send you an invoice. We do not share your details with anyone else. We DO NOT charge you anything if you enrol and then decide the classes do not suit your family.

8. Do you have a uniform?

No - we do not have a uniform because we like children to feel comfortable and be able to choose what they wear, to show a little of their own personality. Also, we DO NOT want you to have any extra costs.

9. Where can I get shoes?

This website is a good option for shoes http://www.dance2go.co.nz/Product.aspx?cid=1&scid=1&pid=16. Children's feet grow fast so please don't spend large amounts on dance shoes.
