Clear as water, light as air
The ultimate eco-car
The advanced hydrogen-powered SC Hydron-e fuel cell SUV opens up a new chapter in fuel cell vehicles. The SC Hydron-e can reach no less than 665 kilometers on a full tank of hydrogen. Moreover, it is completely emission-free. This means that no harmful substances (CO2) are released while driving. The only thing the SC Hydron-e emits is… water!
Hydron-e cleans the air
Apart from water (vapor), the Hydron-e has no emissions. In fact, it filters and purifies the air while driving. The Hydron-e therefore ensures less particulate matter pollution. The purified air that does not flow to the fuel cell leaves the Hydron-e cleaner than it had previously entered. The touchscreen displays the amount of air purification and CO2 reduction achieved.
What is Hydrogen? And how does it work?
A hydrogen car such as the Hydro-e is actually also an electric car. In a hydrogen car, however, the electricity does not come from a battery, but from a fuel cell. You also do not charge a hydrogen car at a charging station, but you fill it up with hydrogen at a hydrogen filling station. Curious about what hydrogen exactly is, how it is made and where you can refuel it?
Hydrogen = H2
Hydrogen is colorless, odorless and flammable. It is the lightest chemical element (H2) on Earth and the most widely distributed in the Universe. Hydrogen hardly occurs in pure form on Earth, but is only found in combination with other elements, mainly with oxygen (in water) and with carbon and oxygen (in living materials and fossil fuels).
Electrolysis
Unlike extractable fuels such as coal, oil and natural gas, hydrogen cannot simply be extracted from the soil. You have to make it first. One of the ways to do that is through electrolysis. This is a process in which water (H2O) is converted into hydrogen (H2) and oxygen (O2). Hydrogen, unlike fossil fuels, should therefore not be regarded as an energy source but only as an energy carrier. The energy released by a reaction in a fuel cell is then used to set a car in motion.
How do I refuel hydrogen?
Refueling hydrogen can best be compared to refueling with LPG. The filling gun of the hydrogen filling station is placed on the connection of the car and locked by squeezing the lever. When locked, the filling station will test the connection and then hydrogen refueling will start. After the tank is completely filled (within 5 minutes), the filling gun can be removed.
How safe is hydrogen?
Because the density of hydrogen is very low (71 grams / liter), high pressure is necessary to be able to store large quantities in a tank in the car. We use 700 bar and the tanks in the car can withstand this high pressure with a safe margin. Furthermore, the tanks and the connections are constructed in such a way that the risk of damage or leakage is extremely small. Extensive tests show that a hydrogen car is completely safe.
Regenerative braking.
By also using the electric motor to brake the car, the SC Hydron-e recovers energy. This is stored in the battery pack, so that it is always sufficiently charged.
A hydrogen car is an electric car that uses a fuel cell as energy instead of a battery.
Less worries for a better drive
From extra comfort to smart functions that make driving easier and safer - everything is already integrated in the Hydron-e.
Lane Following Assist
The Hydron-e is equipped with Lane Following Assist (LFA), which keeps the car in the middle of the lane at speeds between 0 and 90 mph, on both the highway and in the city. The system monitors the car's position in the lane and gives an audible signal if you need to make a steering correction. If you do not respond, the system intervenes with a small steering correction to return the car to the correct position.
Blind Spot Collision-avoidance Assist
This system uses two radar sensors at the bottom of the rear bumper. It warns you with an optical signal if a fellow road user is in the blind spot of the Hydron-e. If you switch on the turn signal in such a situation, the Lane Change Assist system will emit an audible signal as a warning.
Forward Collision-avoidance Assist
Based on input from the front radar and camera sensors, FCA operates in three stages. The system warns you both optically and with an audible signal, depending on the threat of a collision, it brakes the car and brakes at full force to avoid a collision or limit the damage if a collision cannot be avoided. The system activates when a vehicle or cyclist is detected in front of the car and at speeds of 10 km / h or more.
Technology never felt so natural
The SC Hydron-e is a unique hydrogen-electric vehicle with one of the world's most efficient fuel cells and capable to fill up in just five minutes. Its range is up to 650 kilometers. The Hydron-e has been completely designed to provide maximum efficiency in every respect. The car's construction provides a favorable weight-to-power ratio, better acceleration and more interior space.
D-pillars with air tunnel
The specially formed air tunnel in the D-pillars reduces air resistance and thus improves aerodynamics. Together with the long rear spoiler on the roof and the hidden rear window wiper, the floating roof seems to run even longer.
Front air inlets
The SC Hydron-e stands out for its large air intakes at the front and the wide wheel arches that optimize the airflow over the wheels and the side.
Rear LED-units
The LED rear light units have a glossy inner lens finish for a premium accent. Brake light, taillight and turn signal are neatly brought together for good visibility and good looks.
Alloy wheels
The stylish 17- and 19-inch alloy wheels are designed exclusively for the Hydron-e. Their aerodynamic shape guides the air smoothly over the wheels while the brakes are also optimally cooled.
