Solo Automotive Inc. is a Vancouver-based Canadian company focused on developing sustainable electric vehicles for solo urban drivers. Its leading product, the SOLO EV, is a three-wheeled, single-seat electric vehicle designed for everyday commuting in city environments. The company aims to make transportation more efficient by offering a compact solution that helps lower traffic and emissions. Solo is also growing its presence across North America and Europe.
Solo Automotive Inc. was founded to provide an effective mobility option for individuals who commute alone in busy cities. The company operates with a team of approximately 50 employees and maintains its office in Vancouver. Guided by Canadian values, it continues to expand its operations into broader markets throughout North America and Europe. The company’s focus on clean transportation has attracted investor interest aligned with sustainable urban development.
The SOLO EV is the company’s flagship product. It is a fully electric, three-wheeled vehicle made for a single occupant. Solo Automotive Inc. created this vehicle in response to research showing that about 80% of car trips are made by solo drivers. Rather than adapting a traditional car, the company built the vehicle from the ground up with this use case in mind.
The SOLO EV meets the needs of most daily drivers, offering enough battery range to cover an average round-trip commute of about 40 miles. It comes with standard features such as air conditioning, a Bluetooth audio system with USB support, an LCD digital instrument cluster, and power windows and mirrors. Additional convenience features include remote keyless entry, a rear-view backup camera, and heated seats.
The vehicle includes five cubic feet of cargo space—suitable for small items like grocery bags, backpacks, or work tools. Measuring 122 inches in length, 61.4 inches in width, and weighing 1,735 pounds, the SOLO EV fits well in tight urban areas without adding to road congestion.
The SOLO EV is capable of reaching a top speed of 80 miles per hour. It is powered by a rear-wheel-drive system using a 56-horsepower liquid-cooled synchronous motor. With 103 foot-pounds of torque, the vehicle delivers a responsive driving experience, especially in city and suburban streets.
It runs on a 144-volt, 17.4-kilowatt-hour lithium-ion NCA battery with liquid cooling. Charging options are flexible. Using a 220-volt Level 2 charger, the battery can reach 85% in about 2.5 hours and 100% in 6 hours. With a standard 120-volt outlet, charging to 85% takes around 12.5 hours and full charge takes 15 hours.
Safety is integrated into the construction of the SOLO EV. It features LED headlights with daytime running lights, power disc brakes, and a collapsible steering column. Additional structural safety elements include triple-reinforced steel side-impact protection, front and rear crumple zones, a high-strength steel halo roll bar, and torque-limiting stability control.
The chassis is made from a composite monocoque shell, combining durability with lightness. These choices ensure that the vehicle meets the safety needs of daily solo commuters.
Solo Automotive Inc. is driven by three core values: innovation, sustainability, and urban freedom. The SOLO EV operates with zero emissions, directly reducing the carbon footprint of its users. A typical gasoline-powered car used for commuting can emit over 5,500 pounds of CO₂ per year. The SOLO EV offers an alternative that eliminates that output.
Affordability is also part of the company’s mission. The SOLO EV has lower maintenance requirements, uses electricity instead of fuel, and may qualify for more favorable insurance rates due to its size and configuration.
Urban freedom is reflected in the vehicle’s ability to move easily through traffic, park in small spaces, and adapt to real city environments. The vehicle supports a smoother and more flexible daily commute.
Solo Automotive Inc. has made significant progress since it launched. It introduced the SOLO EV as the first electric vehicle developed specifically for solo drivers. Early interest from investors helped the company bring the product to market.
The SOLO EV has received media coverage from well-known outlets including CNN, Bloomberg, Forbes, and MotorTrend, with attention focused on its design and environmental benefits.
The company has delivered vehicles throughout Canada and the United States, while pilot programs in Europe have helped introduce the product to new users. Feedback from these programs is used to improve future versions.
In 2025, Solo Automotive Inc. streamlined its purchase process. Customers can reserve a vehicle with a $200 fully refundable deposit. After the deposit is placed, sales associates and delivery advisors assist with the purchase and delivery process.
