As a member of Society for Women in Marine Science (SWMS), I was invited as a guest speaker at Cambridge high school, and SWMS members have been enthusiastically involved in diverse outdoor and indoor activities to spread the science in this world!
My home institution for PhD had annual Open House and does public tours every summer (except during the COVID-19). As a Horn Point Laboratory (HPL) student and tour guide, I met and engaged people from diverse socioeconomical and racial backgrounds, from 5-year kids to people in their 60s. These experiences helped me to learn how crucial inclusive outreach and education are—getting direct public feedback and their concerns about environmental issues reinforced my motivation and research direction.
