I am a post-doctoral researcher at the École Normale Supérieure in Paris. I am part of the Algèbre et Géométrie group and my mentor is Cyril Houdayer. In September 2024, I completed my PhD in Mathematics at KU Leuven in Belgium and my supervisor was Stefaan Vaes.
My mathematical interests revolve mainly around operator algebras and ergodic theory. Most of my research has a common theme: the interactions between groups, group actions, representations and associated operator algebras.
I completed my Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Mathematics from Chennai Mathematical Institute, India. I am originally from Kolkata, India. My mother tongue is Bengali (বাংলা) and my name in Bengali is written as সোহম চক্রবর্তী.
I will be teaching the course Equivalence relations and measured group theory at the ENS in Spring 2027, together with Milan Donvil, Corentin Le Bars and Basile Morando. Some lecture notes of the course Analytic group theory that we taught in Spring 2026 can be found here.
I am co-organising the Trimester on Operator Algebras: Approximations, Rigidity and Dynamics at the Institut Henri Poincaré in Paris from September to December 2026. Registrations are possible here.
