Privacy Policy for SoftLoad – Smooth Page Transitions

Last Updated: June 10, 2026

At SoftLoad, we believe that your privacy is paramount. This Privacy Policy describes how the SoftLoad Chrome Extension handles information.

Because we believe utility extensions should run locally, securely, and silently, SoftLoad is designed to collect zero user data.

1. Personal Data and Browsing History

No Data Collection: SoftLoad does not collect, record, track, transmit, or store any personal data, browsing history, search queries, IP addresses, or location data.

No Network Communications: The extension works 100% offline. It contains no analytics trackers, advertising scripts, remote logging APIs, or telemetry hooks. It makes zero outbound network requests.

2. Local Configuration Storage

To function correctly, SoftLoad stores your preferred configurations locally on your machine. This data is never transmitted to us or any third party:

Stored Parameters: We save your global enable/disable state, your preferred transition color theme (light, dark, or system matching), and your custom list of excluded website hostnames.

Storage Mechanism: This data is stored strictly on your local browser profile using Chrome's native [Storage API](https://developer.chrome.com/docs/extensions/reference/api/storage) (`chrome.storage.local`) and temporary in-memory session structures (`sessionStorage`).

3. Explanation of Requested Permissions

SoftLoad requests the minimum set of permissions required to function. Each serves a strict local utility:

`storage`: Required to save your settings (such as color mode and excluded domains) locally on your device so they persist across browser sessions.

`activeTab`: Granted temporarily *only* when you click the extension popup. This is used solely to query the hostname of your active tab to support the "Disable on this site" toggle.

Host Matching (`content_scripts.matches`): Required to inject the transition overlay at `document_start` on navigated web pages. This runs locally on your machine to hide page rendering flashes.

4. Third-Party Sharing and Disclosure

Since we collect no information, we cannot and do not sell, trade, rent, or otherwise disclose any user data to third parties, law enforcement, or advertising networks.

5. Children's Privacy

Because SoftLoad does not collect any personal data, it is fully compliant with children's privacy regulations, including the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) and GDPR.

6. Changes to this Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our local codebase or browser requirements. Any updates will be accompanied by a change in the "Last Updated" date at the top of this document.
