Sofia Dias is a musician, handpan artist, educator, and sound healing practitioner from Miami, Florida. Over the past decade, she has studied, performed, and collaborated throughout South Florida, exploring a broad spectrum of music ranging from contemporary to meditative.
Sofia is a multi-instrumentalist having studied both rhythm and bass guitar at Miami Dade College in 2016 while pursuing an Associate's in Arts degree in Music Education and Jazz Performance. In 2019, her interests expanded into world rhythms and percussion, first immersing herself in West African drumming and dance, as well as world rhythms, leading her to play in the MiamiBloco Samba School. Sofia has extensive performance experience across South Florida, including concerts, cultural events, festivals, and private and corporate engagements. With organizations such as Drum Cafe, she has participated in large-scale, interactive educational drumming workshops. Sofia also currently plays bass guitar in the rock trio Viloria, which is set to release its second studio album this summer of 2026 called "Sutilmente Agresivo."
In her passionate pursuit of world rhythms, along with a desire to discover her voice in an authentic way, Sofia discovered the handpan in 2018 at the Singading Barcelona Handpan Gathering. Since then, she’s met an incredible international community of handpan artists. In 2019, she participated in a residency program with artist Kabecao, an experience that profoundly influenced her playing style. In the spring of 2024, Sofia joined the Resound Handpan House tour, collaborating with fellow artists to offer educational workshops and evening concerts across the East Coast of the United States. In the fall of 2025, she facilitated workshops at the Super Bloom Women’s Handpan Gathering, and over the past two years has taught private lessons as well as beginner and advanced group classes at the Miami Sound Institute, while co-leading a handpan ensemble in the South Beach Sound Healing Orchestra. She performs and facilitates in private events, religious ceremonies, yoga classes, and meditative spaces, grateful to share music in meaningful and intimate settings.
Through the handpan, Sofia was introduced to sound healing and has maintained a personal practice since 2020. Over the years she has studied a diverse range of instruments and modalities within her sound healing practice, including Tibetan bowls, Chinese gong, intuitive singing, Native American drumming, prana breathwork, and qi gong-inspired movement in the Miami Sound Institute and the Instituto Internacional Terapia de Sonido. Over the past two years, she has begun professionally facilitating sound healing meditations for individuals and groups, focused on holistic and spiritual well-being.
Sofia’s handpan concerts are rich with expression and world rhythms, conveyed through a candid, open spirit. Whether in a contemporary performance or a meditative sound healing session, her work seamlessly intertwines both worlds, inviting listeners to connect to something sincere and heartfelt.
