My name is Jerome Socolof, and I am excited to announce my candidacy for Selectman to serve the people of Adams.
With a passion for serving others and a commitment to making our town a better place to live, I am eager to bring fresh ideas, thoughtful leadership, and effective decision-making to this important position.
As Selectman, I will address the needs and concerns of our community through a collaborative approach and with transparent communication, fostering positive growth and development and making sure that every voice is heard.
I am Chair of the Department of Fine and Performing Arts at MCLA, where I am also Professor of Arts Management. My job requires me to build consensus, work across constituencies, analyze complex data, and make critical decisions on a daily basis. I take great pride in going above and beyond so that my students (including many Hoosac Valley, McCann, and BART grads) and colleagues feel heard, supported, and valued.
I was born and raised in Ilion, NY, a rural community along the Erie Canal that has a lot in common with Adams. I know the challenges that small towns face because I have seen them up close, but I also know the potential and the pride that exist in communities like Adams and Ilion. When tradition and progress co-exist, great things can happen.
When my wife and I moved to Massachusetts seven years ago, we chose to put down roots in Adams because of the sense of community that runs so strongly through this wonderful town and the people in it. We may not have been as lucky as some to call Adams home for a long time, but we got here as soon as we could.
I am a proud member of the Adams Lions Club, serve on the Town of Adams Historical Commission, and I am a ProAdams board member.
I am a third-generation public servant. My grandfather was a public high school chemistry teacher, my father taught at a community college for nearly 40 years, and I have taught in public institutions for a decade. I believe that giving one’s time and energy is the most important thing a person can do to build a strong community, and I am honored every day to carry on my family’s tradition of service.
Together, let’s work towards a brighter future for Adams that works for all of Adams.
In the coming weeks, I look forward to meeting and talking with many of you about how we can achieve these goals, and I hope that I can earn your vote on May 5th. Please don’t hesitate to reach out and connect, and follow this page for more information.
