In 2017, Barrett's grandfather, Big Daddy Ric, was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma. With research, he knew it was going to be a long battle. Ric wanted to share his story to help those also battling the disease. Knowing he would lose his hair and look rough some days, Ric wanted to update his followers by posting photos of his funky socks. People started to send him socks with all types of patterns. The funkier the design, the happier it made him. His friends connected with him and shared memories through the types of socks they sent. Socks, family, and friends were the source of his happiness until he passed away in April 2020.
When Barrett realized he could invent a business for his school's Invention Convention, he quickly went to work on "Socks for the Sick." A non-profit which would send socks to people spending extended amounts of time in the hospital or at home due to serious illness. With these socks, Barrett will include a joke. Through research, he found that laughing and smiling help relieve stress and aid recovery.
This Organization means so much to our family and we hope to share it with many others.
