About the department
The Department of Sociology was established in 2017. This department started with more than 300 students in general degree course. Sociology is the scientific study of Society, study of social relationships, human interaction and interrelations their conditions and consequences. And it’s also study of social action, social phenomena, social system and culture of everyday life.
Objectives of this department are
To introduce students to the basic social processes of society, social institutions and patterns of social behavior.
To teach students the sociological concepts, theories and methods of the behavioral and social services.
To prepare students for Pass Graduate study.
To analyze quantitative and qualitative data.
To examine critically social issues of importance.
And students will demonstrate familiarity with the sociological imagination.
Innovation and creativity in the teaching – learning process
Innovation and creativity in the teaching – learning process, we, the teachers of Prabhu Jagatbandhu College use ICT tools such as e-learning, web link, Google classroom etc. for better understanding of the topic. The teachers attempt to develop the critical thinking and problem solving skills of student and enhancing their communication and collaboration skills by organizing extempore, debates, mock classes on various issues of social relevance, logical reasoning and philosophical insight. Students are encouraged to speak on topics related to values and morality. We conduct a cultural program annually where students get the opportunity to express their creativity and talent. Students are encouraged by rewards from participation in quiz contests to boost their knowledge about current affairs and recent social phenomenon. Teachers also conduct remedial and tutorial classes for backward students.
Seminars and workshops are held on regular basis on different topics by different departments so that students can take interest and gain knowledge about various phenomenons around them and can also put their opinions in front of others which are the most beneficial aspect of their further studies.
Question and answer bridge course program are held for better understanding of the students’ depth of knowledge and knowledge gaps about a particular subject. This helps teachers to understand the needs of the students and accordingly they can design a customized learning program for some students who seek extra attention. Debate and role play sessions are organized regularly to boost their communication skills and make them learn in hands on way.
Interactive sessions are held after every class so that the teachers can understand how much the students picked up during the class and if there is any further requirement of revision or rectification of any sort. This helps the teachers to understand the interests of the students in a particular topic and the students to develop their communication skills.
Teachers make power point presentation with flow charts, diagrams and pictures so that the they can grow more interest about the subject and make it easier for the students to understand the topic.
Few departments like Botany, Zoology, Geography etc conduct field studies regularly to give practical knowledge about the topics taught in the classrooms. This helps the students to gain practical knowledge rather than only theoretical knowledge which makes the subject more interesting and easy to understand for the students.
In our college we have a library with huge stock of books for different subjects. The teachers encourage the students so that they can take reference books from the library and study to boost their knowledge.
