The reliability of computing technology is a core theme of the terminator, as both sides of the main conflict in the movie suffer from issues with computer reliability. Both unreliability and uncontrollableness plague the various factions that used technology.
In the Terminator universe, humanity constructs the artificial intelligence defense network Skynet, which eventually goes rogue and turns on them, starting a nuclear war and attempting to enslave humanity in the process. This implies that during the creation of this AI network, the human creators did not implement enough safeguards within the AI's code to prevent it from turning on them, and were clearly not careful enough while running tests with it, or they did not test it at all before deploying it. Although we do not currently have AI anywhere near as advanced as Skynet, there is still a lesson to be learned here about making sure to sufficiently test and secure AI products being developed, in order to prevent catastrophic scenarios where the AI malfunctions and does not behave according to it's original intent, creating danger for those using it.
On the other hand, Skynet itself suffers from issues with computer reliability, as seen in the T-800 itself. Although the Terminator operates ruthlessly and efficiently with pursuing it's goal of hunting down Connors throughout the movie, making cold and calculated decisions to maximize it's chances at taking her out, it ultimately fails to accomplish it's goal. Despite having a significantly higher capability to process information and perform quick calculations than the humans it is hunting, the Terminator is ultimately bested and defeated by them. The human protagonists are ultimately able to to confuse the robot through a series of distractions involving loud machinery and improvised explosives, resulting in it walking into a hydraulic press which is used to destroy it. Although Skynet and the Terminator are certainty the. antagonists of this movie, they still experience issues with computer reliability that could even affect "heroes" or good people trying to use robots to perform tasks
