Societal Computing is an evolving contemporary multidisciplinary field, which provides innovative solutions to our real-life social problems. In this realm, the associated technology has instigated a direct impact on our society. The state of the art reveals a massive multidimensional dependence of society on the IoT based data-driven computation. As a consequence, a number of challenging socio-technological concerns have evolved. This demands innovative solutions to ensure the sustainable coexistence of society and technology.
The issues include platform based products and automated processes, which address real-life problems through the usage of data driven computation. In this domain, the primary motivation of the computer scientists is to make the world understand the global scenario of the computation techniques, which are used to create innovative socio-technological solutions from this vantage point.
The critical scenarios in the society can occur in the areas such as, but not limited to, smart transport management, human-activity monitoring, smart crisis management in challenged network scenarios, smart environment sensing to create awareness in the society, use of social media data to provide deeper insights to the problems in hand, critical issues of rural development like quick and easy transportation, immediate healthcare facility and insufficient information. The conceivable techniques to address such challenges can be implemented through the use of data-driven systems, which can monitor and respond to those critical scenarios in the society through the use of IoT.
All these systems do not necessarily need to be independent of each other and can work concurrently to prove actional insights. This will give rise to a smart society, which can use the technology being guided by the system-driven insight.
The goal of the International Workshop on Societal Computing for the Internet of Things & You (SoCIeTY 2025) is to delve into the application of new and innovative technological research, which can improve the socio-technology realm through the use of data-driven computation. The emphasis is to provide an interdisciplinary platform to the researchers to exchange their ideas, present their results, share their thoughts based on their expertise, stimulate new research idea , and foster collaborations among computer scientists, engineers, domain experts, urban scientists and representatives from Government and NGOs to design and develop systems for an effective computation-driven-society.
