We will celebrate Helsinki's status as the new capital city with a ball in the style of the bourgeoisie of 1812. Welcome!
OUR VISION
Helsinki became the new capital of Finland in the spring of 1812. We want to bring the celebrations of the growing city of the regency/empire era back to life - the event is atmospheric and intimate, fit for the town's wealthy bourgeoisie.
VENUE AND ARRIVAL
The Viikki mansion is located at Viikinkaari 8, Helsinki.
The manor is easily accessible by public transport and by car. There is a parking lot on the grounds of the manor. The nearest bus stops are located a couple of hundred meters away.
The current empire-style main building of the manor was completed in 1832 and has been renovated maintaining the building’s heritage.
You can get a glimpse into the Viikki Manor in advance with the help of the restaurant's own promotional video: https://vimeo.com/193579361/3859ef8002 The promotional video also shows a meeting room with modern furniture, but it is located in a separate building.
PROGRAM
The event includes coffee/tea service and dancing to live music.
The ball's service includes coffee or tea, as well as a savory and a sweet treat. It is possible to buy alcoholic beverages from the restaurant. The event location is a restaurant, which is why bringing your own drinks won’t be allowed. You must be at least 18 years of age in order to participate.
The evening’s dances are ballroom dances typical for the beginning of the 19th century, and they are danced to live music of the period. The dances are reconstructed from original sources, i.e. exactly the ones that the fashionable society danced at that time. The dance master of the evening will be Petri Myllynen who will call and instruct the dances in English. You do not need to know the dances in advance.
