Natural Language Processing for Social Media

In conjunction with TheWebConf 2022 @ April 25, 2022.
In conjunction with
NAACL 2022 @ July 14-15, 2022.

As this year happens to be the tenth year of the SocialNLP workshop and we want to celebrate this success together with our community members, we propose a special event to show the past and the future of related research topics to participants in the hope of encouraging more researchers to join us. This special event shall cover hot SocialNLP topics in these 10 years and hence attract many participants. Details are introduced in the next section.

Special Event for the 10th Anniversary

  • This year is the 10th year of SocialNLP workshop, we are very happy to see the success of SocialNLP in the past year. To celebrate the 10th anniversary and to carry on the past heritage and open up the future in this research domain, we design a special event – Invited Speaker Reunion. We plan to invite all the past invited speaker (see Table 1) to come back and give a talk. We will encourage them to link their current direction and past talk this time, and share their future vision on it. So far there are already 8 speakers who have agreed to join this exciting event, including (ordered by the invited year):

(1) Prof. Yohei Seki (University of Tsukuba)

(2) Dr. Jacob Eisenstein (Google)

(3) Prof. Cristian Danescu-Niculescu-Mizil (Cornell University)

(4) Prof. Thamar Solorio (University of Houston)

(5) Dr. Saif M. Mohammad (National Research Council Canada)

(6) Prof. Sonjanya Poria (Singapore University of Technology and Design)

(7) Prof. Dan Goldwasser (Purdue University)

(8) Prof. Tim Weninger (University of Notre Dame)

  • We are still inviting the rest (more than 10) past invited speakers. We plan to have invited speakers and paper authors intervening their presentations by turns throughout the whole workshop. We will categorize them in pairs by their research topics when making the workshop program this year. We are expecting more past invited speakers to join us so we plan to have a two-day workshop this year. We will also gather some past invited speakers in a panel discussion to share their experience in these years for some specific research topics. We believe this special event can show the research trace of SocialNLP and bring much insight to our audience so as to attract many participants.
