Welcome! Bienvenu! Bienvenidos! Willkommen! Chào mừng!
Greetings and welcome to middle school history at Christ the King!
My name is Mr. Walker and I teach social studies at Christ the King School in Burlington, Vermont. I could not be more excited for the 2025-26 school year! Exploring history, language, and culture around the globe are deep passions of mine that I look foward to sharing with all of you.
Our 6th grade curriculum will begin with an overview of geography before covering human history from our origins through ancient Mesopotamia, Egypt, and other peoples to ancient Greece and Alexander the Great's conquest of the Persian Empire and the Hellenic dynasties that followed.
Our 7th Graders will embark on a journey that spans from the legendary founding of Rome through its rise and fall and other fun topics like the Vikings, Medieval Europe, the Arab world, ancient China, and the Mongol empire, before ending with the Rennaissance and Age of Exploration; the beginnings of modern history.
8th Grade Social Studies will consider US History from the pre-colonial European settling of North America through the nation's founding and the Civil War to Reconstruction and the settling of the West.
Understanding history is necessary to avoid repeating the mistakes of the past, but it is also necessary for understanding the human spirit and the journey we've taken to get to where we are now. There are so many fascinating stories; so many fascinating perspectives, questions, and answers to discover, and I look forward to exploring them with all of you!
As we get closer to the beginning of the school year, please find the curriculae and syllabi posted at the bottom of this page.
About Mr. Walker
I am from Newport, Rhode Island and live in Mallet's Bay with my wife Thu and my dog Nibbler. Before moving to beautiful northern Vermont, I taught French, English, and history at boarding schools in Connecticut, and before that I taught English in the Alsace-Lorraine region of France! I hold a Masters of Education in TESOL, Literacy, and Culture from the University of San Diego and a Masters of International Policy and Development from the Middlebury Institute of International Studies in Monterey, California. I love live music, traveling and camping with my wife and dog, and any recreational sports by the woods or water! I speak French, Spanish, and German, and am trying to learn Vietnamese from my wife!
