Fleetwood Town 11/10 to beat Wycombe Wanderers in Friday’s League one play-off showdown

Two sides desperate to pick up what could be a crucial early advantage on their return to action this week, Fleetwood will welcome Wycombe to and empty Highbury on Friday evening.

Starting with the hosts, while Fleetwood might have been disappointed to have drawn three of their four League One contests prior to the enforced break, Joey Barton’s side have enjoyed an eye-catching year at Highbury. Really laying down a marker back in February when picking up back-to-back victories against Portsmouth and Peterborough, the former Newcastle midfielder should also be boosted by his side’s most recent meeting against Friday’s guests. Making the trip down to Wycombe prior to the break, the Fisherman landed a deserved 1-0 win on the road and mark their return this week in the midst of a stunning 12-match League One unbeaten run, a run that stems all the way back to January 11th. Losing just a sole third-tier contest on home soil since February 2019, there is no doubt that Fleetwood will be looking to gain a crucial early advantage in Lancashire.

As for the visitors, despite a stunning start to the 2019/2020 campaign, Wycombe came crashing back down to earth in rather dramatic fashion prior to the enforced break. Last seen back in March when hit with a 3-1 drumming away at Doncaster, Gareth Ainsworth’s side found themselves freefalling away from the automatic spots and showing some real signs of fatigue. In for a tough return against a Fleetwood side who beat them 1-0 before the interruption, the Blues also gained a reputation for their glaring struggles on the road. Remarkably, Friday’s guests have lost six of their last seven League One matchups away from Adams Park and aside from a 2-0 win away at relegated Bolton, Wycombe have not recorded another away victory since the middle of November.
