Roughly translated to "Taking a second look into our river" is an annual outreach event coordinated by Prof.ª Érica Caramaschi (Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro), in which several activities to share knowledge about aquatic ecology are brought to natural areas (national parks, reserves) near small towns. The event is open for the community and usually a couple of middleschool and highschool classes are taken to enjoy the event.
Me, some lab colleages and three highly motivated highschool students built this aquarium diorama for a permanent exposition in Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro. The exposition gathers information in several topics of biodiversity and we provided them this diorama representing some of the fishes that are found in Atlantic Forest streams, as well as a catalogue for explore the diorama and a banner presenting the biological material was retrieved from. Biological material was repurposed from the collenction of the Laboratório de Ecologia de Peixes (headed by Prof.ª Érica Caramaschi).
Biodiversidade em Foco (@BiodivFoco), roughly translated to Biodiversity in Focus, is a SciComm project in Twitter. We administrate a rotative twitter account and every week a different scientist based in Brazil or Brazilian manages the account. Curators share a bit of their experience in science and scientific knowledge on their areas of interest. Unfortunately, project is led in Portuguese.
