Hi, I’m Abby, and I’m 12 years old. I’ve created "Snuggle Buddies" as part of my school Passion Project in Year 8. I want to make a difference for young people who are struggling with their mental health. I’m raising money for Te Tahi Youth, an organisation in Christchurch that provides counselling, medical care, and other support to kids and teens who need help.
I believe everyone deserves to feel supported, especially when it comes to mental health. By selling these bears through the "Snuggle Buddies" auctions, I can raise money to help Te Tahi Youth continue their amazing work. Every dollar goes to providing services for kids and teens in Christchurch.
I’ve been collecting teddy bears and soft toys donated by people in my community, as well as finding some in second-hand stores. I clean them up, weight them with clean sand, and add special bandannas to make them look extra cute. I also attach a fidget buddy to each bear—a little charm that you can clip to your school bag or pencil case. It’s a reminder that there’s a big, comforting hug waiting for you when you get home.
If you have a bear or other soft toy at home you would like to donate to get weighted and sold to support young people and their mental health, please get in touch.
Thank you for your support!
~ Abby
I have loved teddies since I was tiny. Everywhere I went, a bear would come with me. Sparkles has always been my very special favourite, but many others have come on adventures hiking, biking, to the playground, with tea parties, storytimes, and being students in my "school".
When my Mum bought a weighted bear for her class at school, and I realised how amazing they are for calming down big emotions, I just had to have one for myself and I saved up to buy my own.
Now I'm really excited to be able to help other people get the same joy and comfort for themselves.
