Privacy Policy of Snipd

1 Introduction

We aim to give you the best possible experience and make sure you enjoy using Snipd (“we”, “us”, “our”, “Owners”). To that end, we collect personal data. Your privacy and the security of your data is and will always be extremely important to us. In this policy we explain the details about the collection, usage and sharing of your personal data when using Snipd. This policy applies to all services of Snipd.

2 Owners and contact details

Owners of Snipd and its collected data are Ferdinand Langnickel and Kevin Smith. Furthermore, selected developers of Snipd may be given access to the collected data if required for the development of Snipd.

3 Types of data collected

User data

• Your user data is stored during the signup process in order to create a user profile for you. If you want to change your user data you can directly contact us via email. If you do not want to provide personal user data you can use the anonymous sign up.

Usage data

• We automatically collect and store data when you interact with and use Snipd. This data may include, but is not limited by:

  • Information about your interactions with Snipd such as search queries, listening behavior or editing a playlist.

  • Inferences about your interests and preferences based on your usage of Snipd

  • User generated content which includes playlist items and names, likes, and all communication with us

  • Technical data including online identifiers such as cookies or IP addresses, device information such as the operating system, the non-exact location information derived from indirect sources such as the IP address

Third-party-data

• Authentication information

  • In order to simplify the signup process we allow you to signup through third-party services. If you choose to sign up or log in through a third-party service (e.g. Apple or Google) we import and store the information that you agree to share with Snipd from that service in order for you to use your own Snipd account

All data collected by Snipd -- unless specified otherwise -- is mandatory and the failure to provide this data may make it impossible for Snipd to provide its services. If you are uncertain about which personal data is mandatory you are welcome to contact us directly via email.

4 The purposes of processing

We collect personal data for the following purposes

• providing Snipd for its users

• improving Snipd for its users

• personalizing Snipd for its users

• technical troubleshooting and debugging

• testing and developing new features

• complying with legal obligations

• responding to enforcement requests

• protecting Snipd rights and interests and those of the users

• detecting any malicious or fraudulent activity

5 Third-party services

To build and run Snipd we use third-party service providers that work on our behalf and which may need to access certain personal data in order to provide their services to us. In particular, we use cloud service providers in order to host the app and store and secure all data. Besides hosting and data storage, there are further purposes for which personal data may be processed and stored on service providers’ servers. Below we explain the list of services we use and the type of data which is processed.

Analytics

• Purpose: monitor and analyze the usage of Snipd

• Service provider: Google Analytics for Firebase (Google LLC)

  • Logging of user properties: Google Analytics automatically logs user properties (e.g. age group, device brand, or language) to that end mobile ad identifiers and/or cookies are used by Google to infer demographics and interest information, the IP address is used to infer location data.

  • Logging of events: Google Analytics automatically logs some user events (e.g. time of a session start or a certain page of the app is viewed). In addition Snipd tracks more app-specific events such as editing behavior of playlists.

  • Screen tracking: Google Analytics tracks screen transitions to enable data-driven decisions to improve the user-experience.

• Personal data processed: mobile ad identifiers, IP address, cookies, and usage data

Hosting, data storage and backend infrastructure

• Purpose: provide Snipd to its users and enable its functionality

• Service provider: Google Cloud Storage (Google LLC)

• Personal data processed: All types of data as specified in this policy

• Place of processing: United States

Image Content Delivery Network

• Purpose: provide Snipd users with highly available access to the images of the podcast and episodes in the size required by their app.

• Service provider: Images.weserv.nl and Cloudfare, Inc

• Personal data processed:

  • Request log, containing user IP, is kept for seven days

• Place of processing:

  • Image Processing: France and Germany

  • Content Delivery Network: Worldwide (closer to users location)

Troubleshooting

• Purpose: Monitor, track and analyze technical performance and issues of the app

• Service provider: Crashlytics (Google LLC)

• Personal data processed: event logs of crash events

• Place of processing: United States

If you wish to opt-out of the data processing by Google Analytics, please contact us directly. As of now, data processing for analytics is mandatory and opting out of this option implies that the app cannot be used by you.

6 Data retention and deletion

Your personal data is stored only as long as necessary to enable us to provide Snipd services to you as well as for legitimate and essential business purposes, such as improving the performance of Snipd, making informed, data-driven business decisions about new features, complying with legal obligations, and resolving disputes. We keep some of your personal data (e.g. your playlists) for as long as you are a user of Snipd.

Based upon request, we will delete or anonymise your personal data so that it no longer identifies you, unless we are legally allowed or required to maintain certain personal data.

7 Your rights

In line with General Data Protection Regulation ("GDPR"), we grant users of Snipd the following rights in relation to their personal data:

Right of access

• Users may request access to their personal data stored by Snipd

Right to rectification

• users may request that we amend or update your personal data in case it is inaccurate or incomplete

Right to erasure

• Users may request the deletion of their personal data.

Right to restrict

• Users may request that we temporarily or permanently stop processing all or some of their personal data.

Right to object

• Users may, at any time, object to us processing their personal data on grounds relating to their particular situation.

• Users may object to their personal data being processed for direct marketing purposes.

Right to data portability

• Users may request a copy of your personal data in electronic format and the right to transmit that personal data for use in another party's service.

Right not to be subject to automated decision-making

• Users have the right to not be subject to a decision based solely on automated decision making, including profiling, where the decision would have a legal effect on you or produce a similarly significant effect.

You can direct any requests to exercise your rights to us through the contact details provided in this policy. These requests can be exercised free of charge and will be addressed by us as early as possible.

We may display advertisements from third parties as well as links to third-party websites. We cannot be held responsible for the privacy practices and content of said third parties. By clicking on a third-party advertisement or link you are leaving Snipd and any personal data you provide will not be covered by this policy. Please make sure you read the privacy policy of the respective third party.

9 Transfer of data to other countries

We may share your personal data with or subcontract processing to third parties located in countries other than your country. Therefore, your personal data may be subject to privacy laws that are different from those in your country.

10 Children

Snipd is not directed at and not permitted to be used by children under the age of 18 years. We do not knowingly collect personal data of children who are younger than 18 years. If you are younger than 18 years do not use Snipd and do not provide any personal data to us.

11 Changes to this policy

We may update and change this policy from time to time. Users will be notified about any changes and are asked to read the updated policies carefully.
