Only PG department in the college.
Second among all colleges under University of Calcutta to initiate PG course (Master in Computer Science)

The department has initiated a software learning course in collaboration with IIT Bombay, for both students and teachers.
Affiliated to the University of Calcutta on 1994 and started honours course from 1996.
The first UG Hons. batch came out on 1999 and PG on 2018.
The department started with two computers and at the moment there are 32 computers, six high quality printer, three scanners, fifteen microprocessor kits, three CRO, one signal generator, twenty breadboards and several other essential lab instruments in the department.
Other than PCs and high configuration laptops, the labs are equipped with modern apparatus like digital TV, high resolution camera, CROs, fingerprint scanner, digital pen etc.
We use only non proprietary software in laboratory.

This department of Surendranath College empowers the intellect of University of Calcutta from the 1st day of its foundation. Clear vision, legal point of view, morality and intellect are the frontier goals of this undergraduate department of Surendranath College as well as University of Calcutta. It is one of the best undergraduate departments among all the colleges affiliated to University of Calcutta as well as other universities in West Bengal, India. Coagulation of academic excellence and morality will take this department to a sublime height in the world although it is not the oldest but the finest.

This department of Surendranath College is devoted to produce moral leaders of computer technology from the 1st day of its foundation. The journey of this department is not the smoothest one but the hardest but it remains in glory of excellence in teaching and research from early beginning. The indomitable will, morality, commendable excellence in academics of the people of this department made it such a success. This department is also devoted to produce moral, legally and technically sound leaders of academics and software giants. It is also devoted in social reformation and empowerment of legal rights of citizens in urban society from the scratch.
