SnapText – Image to Text OCR

Privacy Policy

Effective date: October 20, 2026

This Privacy Policy explains how the SnapText – Image to Text OCR browser extension ("SnapText", "the extension", "we") handles your information. In short: SnapText does not collect, store on any server, sell or share your personal data. All text recognition happens locally on your device.

1. SUMMARY

- Screenshots and images you process are never uploaded to us or to any third party.

- Text recognition (OCR) runs entirely inside your browser.

- We do not use analytics, tracking, advertising or cookies.

- We do not have user accounts and we do not operate any servers that receive your data.

2. INFORMATION THE EXTENSION PROCESSES

SnapText only processes information when you actively use it.

a) Screenshots of web pages

When you click the SnapText toolbar button (or press its keyboard shortcut) and choose "Select area" or "Capture visible screen", the extension takes a screenshot of the current tab. If you selected an area, the screenshot is cropped to that area. The image is used only to extract text and is processed on your device.

b) Images you upload or paste

When you upload, drag and drop, or paste an image into SnapText, that image is read and processed on your device.

c) Extracted text

The text recognized from your images is shown to you so you can edit, copy or download it. It is not sent anywhere.

d) Settings

SnapText saves your chosen OCR language and whether "Copy text to clipboard automatically" is turned on.

3. HOW AND WHERE INFORMATION IS STORED

All storage is local to your browser:

- Captured and uploaded images are stored temporarily in the extension's local browser storage (IndexedDB) so the latest result can be shown again or opened in the full-page view. Images are automatically deleted after one hour. The check runs whenever you use SnapText and when your browser starts.

- The most recent extracted text is kept in the browser's session storage so that it is not lost if the popup closes. Session storage is cleared when you close your browser.

- Your settings (language and auto-copy preference) are saved with Chrome's sync storage. If you have Chrome Sync turned on, Google syncs these settings between your own Chrome browsers, as it does for other extension settings. No images or text are stored there.

- Language data files (see Section 4) are cached locally so they only need to be downloaded once.

You can delete all data stored by SnapText at any time by removing the extension from Chrome.

4. NETWORK REQUESTS

SnapText's OCR engine and English language data are included in the extension, so using SnapText in English makes no network requests.

If you choose a language other than English, SnapText downloads that language's recognition data file once from the public jsDelivr content delivery network (cdn.jsdelivr.net) and caches it on your device. This request contains only the name of the language file being downloaded. Your images and text are never sent. Like any web request, it exposes your IP address to jsDelivr, which handles it under its own privacy policy: https://www.jsdelivr.com/terms/privacy-policy-jsdelivr-net

SnapText makes no other network requests.

5. CLIPBOARD

SnapText writes text to your clipboard only when you click a "Copy" button, or automatically after recognition if you turned on "Copy text to clipboard automatically". SnapText reads images from the clipboard only when you paste (Ctrl+V / Cmd+V) into the extension's popup or page.

6. PERMISSIONS

SnapText requests the minimum permissions it needs:

- activeTab: to take a screenshot of the current tab, only after you click the extension or use its shortcut.

- scripting: to show the area-selection overlay on the current tab when you choose "Select area". The overlay does not read or collect page content.

- storage: to save your settings and keep your latest result available, as described in Section 3.

SnapText does not request access to your browsing history and cannot read or change websites unless you invoke it on the current tab.

7. SHARING AND SALE OF DATA

We do not collect your data, so we do not sell, rent, trade or share it with anyone. We do not use or transfer any data for purposes unrelated to the extension's single purpose of extracting text from images, and we do not use it to determine creditworthiness or for lending purposes.

SnapText's use of information complies with the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.

8. CHILDREN'S PRIVACY

SnapText does not knowingly collect any personal information from anyone, including children under 13.

9. CHANGES TO THIS POLICY

If we change how SnapText handles information, we will update this policy and its effective date. Significant changes will also be noted in the extension's Chrome Web Store listing.
