The ingredients for chivda can all be found at an Indian grocery store. They even carry packaged versions of Bombay mix and other Indian snack mixes. However, I love making homemade versions because I get to make it exactly how I like it.

Papdi chaat is a lip-smackingly tasty Indian street food snack combining crunchy crackers, vegetables, smooth curd/yogurt and tangy chutneys. It might sound like a lot of ingredients, but it's really easy to make. It's a real feast for the senses with tangy, sweet and spicy flavors, and great to nibble on whatever the excuse.

Sometimes snacks are super simple, other times it can be fun to be a little more elaborate. While this one might seem like it has a number of components (and does), it's really as simple as layering things up. And the end result is so worth that little bit of effort, it's easy to see why this is such a popular Indian chaat recipe.

Chaat is a broad group of snacks from North India, originally the Uttar Pradesh region. You would typically call chaat street food but that said, they are so well loved by many that you often make them at home, too. "Chaat" literally means to lick or taste which broadly describes the sensation of eating these bites.

There is no one set rule on what to include, and you'll find many variations. Most start with a base which can be vegetables (like potato, corn or chickpeas), crackers or both, as here. Some versions use other snacks like samosas or fritters as the base.

Quick and easy recipes for popular Indian snacks that are great for parties, and perfect for an evening snack with a hot cup of chai. This snack list consists of some of the best Indian snacks that are sweet, spicy, tangy, and utterly delicious!

You'll love this collection of lip-smacking Indian snack recipes. Whether it's for a party, festive celebrations like Holi or Diwali, or a casual tea time with family, these crunchy Indian snacks are full of flavor and great for all occasions.

This snack list contains some of the most popular North Indian snacks along with some irresistible south Indian dishes as well. It includes a variety of popular vegetarian and non-vegetarian items like Samosa, Chaat, Tikka, Idli-Chutney, Pav Bhaji, Bhutta (corn), Kebab, just to name a few.

The best part about all these snacks recipes is that they are easy to make at home using an air fryer, Instant pot, oven, or stove. This collection also includes healthier versions of traditionally deep-fried recipes as well.

Also, As I am talking about semolina, other crispy semolina/sooji snack you can make is savoury Semolina pancakes, Sooji aur chawal le Pakore. If You want another cheesy Potato snack recipe these Potato Triangles and Potato Pancakes are totally a potato snack you must try.

The recipe looks delicious. The recipe also has good nutrition value. Its complete recipe for snack time. The recipe takes few minutes to get prepared. I really like this recipe and thanks for sharing it. Keep sharing more recipes. You can try some spicy taste for your recipes with our variety of spices at

Back when I was in elementary school and my family took all our foreign trips in sanitized tour bus form, most of the restaurants we were taken to were less than stellar. These were the sorts of trips where meals were more like brief feeding periods to give us the energy to squeeze five excursions into a single day. So we became the obnoxious family that carted around our own condiments and snacks to liven up whatever bland food was on offer. This is how we discovered that aloo bhujia tastes as great on Indian food as it does on French omelets, ramen, couscous, and even ceviche.

Aloo bhujia is the reason that packaged American snacks have never quite done it for me. I enjoy the occasional Dorito, or Wheat Thin, sure. But they will never hold a candle to the sheer crave-ability of a bag of bhujia. (Also, I wish I could say that my family is no longer annoying enough to travel with aloo bhujia, but who am I kidding? We went to the Caribbean a few months ago and went through five bags.)

Made these Baked mathri l spiced and herbed Indian snack a couple of days ago to satisfy the savoury snack cravings. They are crisp and full of flavour from the herbs and spices. Unlike the regular mathris which are deep fried, these are baked. So definitely a healthier option too.

The Indian sub continent has so many options for savoury snacks that a lifetime is probably not enough to taste all of them. Mathri is one of them. A popular North Indian savoury snack, mathri is usually made with a dough consisting of flour, herbs and spices. The dough is then rested, rolled / cut into small discs and fried.

In this recipe I have baked the mathri instead of frying for a healthier option. Moreover, it also saves the time needed to stand over the stove and fry the mathris. They are quite small too, perfect as a bite sized treat on their own with your cuppa. And if you want something more substantial, you could have them along side some pickle or chutney or even some salsa. All in all, a perfect savoury snack, not just for festivals, but for all round the year.

In this post, I have shared recipes for dry namkeens, Indian chaats and street food (roadside food), fritters and pakodas (bhajiyas, pakoras, or bajji), healthy after-school snacks or lunch box snacks for kids like sandwiches, quesadillas and rolls, party snacks and more. All of these can be prepared in any part of the world if you have the necessary ingredients in your pantry or Indian/Asian stores nearby. Snacks shared below can be prepared throughout the year - although certain snacks like pakoras are much craved and enjoyed in cold or rainy weather.

Some of the most popular Indian snacks include samosa, sev, bhel, banana chips, murukku, roasted makhana, chivda, murmura, vada pav, chikki, etc.

Bread with potato filling makes a mouthwatering snack. This is a perfect snack with afternoon tea or served as an appetizer. Bread Potato Rolls are crunchy on the outside, and soft and spicy on the inside. They are also easy to prepare. Try them today.

Raj Kachori is a spicy chaat bowl filled with delicious condiments. It has refreshing flavors and makes for a unique food experience. Guests will have fun filling their own Kachories according to their taste palette. Served as a snack or appetizer, Raj Kachories make a beautiful presentation and are thoroughly enjoyed by just about everyone.

If you like your snacks a little on the sweeter side, you could also toss in a handful of dried fruits. Golden raisins or chopped dried apricots would be wonderful. I think chopped cashew nuts would be great too!

Indian cuisine and homemade food always manage to satisfy people's palates worldwide, which is something to be proud of. With so many varied diversities, India has a vast range of snacks that are popular both within and internationally.

Just like most other deep fried snacks from around the world, Punugulu ae just too damn delicious and yes, you cannot eat just one! However unlike most of them, punugulu has no added sugars, is vegan and almost borders the realm of the loved-by-all healthy snacks. Fondly renamed as dosa vadas by my husband, punugulu is a much loved recipe that was passed on by my grandmother and grandmas are never wrong, are they? ? Continue reading

Chivda. When it's time for some "timepass," there's just no other Indian snack mix that comes close to this one. It's simplicity itself: crispy puffed rice or rice crispies tossed with nuts and a few spices. And yet it packs a heavy punch. It's delicious and addictive and -- although the Indian cooks who invented it way back when probably never meant it to be that -- it is quite possibly the best thing to snack on with a cold glass of beer. All of which makes it perfect Gameday eats.

The first time that I shopped in an Indian market, I found an entire isle of snacks. I bought some and was hooked. I've tried to find recipes but most seemed to use a LOT of oil. Yours looks perfect and I can't wait to try it ... my mouth is watering already! I think the chipotle tofu would make a fabulous sandwich ... or even a great topping for a pizza ... or maybe alongside some hashbrowns for a unique breakfast ... oh the possibilities are endless. ?

Wow what an addictive gameday snack you got there Vaishali. Love the addition of baked chipotle tofu to it -- must have made it so yummy!!

I would add top my Mexican rice & Bean bowl with the baked chipotle, avocado and cilantro for a filling meal.

TLDR; Growing up indian family across the street. The mom made these round, crunchy, spicy, flattish except for small air pockets, extremely GOOD snack type things. My friend ate them with salsa, but they were awesome by themselves. I asked his mom a LONG time ago for recipe which I have but these just feel not right. Not spicy enough. Hard to read her writing, but I have Mathri? written as the name of them. I looked online for additional recipes but the pictures of the recipes just don't look the same as what she made. Some are very close, but these were crunchy and oh so good. I'm going to try to make her recipe again but wondering if anyone might have an idea or recipe or source.

Blogger had issues with comments again today. My apologies if you tried to leave a comment and could not.

Here's a comment Anita sent me by email:

It just does work better in the paper cones. And you got a whiff of the newsprint too!

I must do the road-side stuff at home too sometimes - we tend to just snack on it without the yummy garnishes that make it quite the other animal!

Indu, true that!

Kitt, yes! You will notice that a lot of snacks have onions, tomatoes, cilantro, chaat masala etc. Remember my masala papad? You can substitute Chana Jor Garam with peanuts and it will be delicious.

Miri, yes! Pics had to be taken quickly cos we eat the food that appears on this blog. And CJG cannot be eaten soggy!

Pel, I'm holding. But for how long?

Lindsay, thanks! I hope you enjoy it as much as we do!

Shammi, 'tis Her Princessness. But why? Cos she's eating something so spicy? Or is there more to it?

Freshandfoodie, so glad you came by! I hope you try it soon!

Alvaro, good luck with your blog.

John, it is a Vedantic learning system for children of all ethnicities and religions. Balvihar is based on Chinmaya Mission's Bala Vihar, where children learn about the Indian culture and religion. Anita, there's that added fun of tipping it out of a paper cone! Our cones were opened up and any leftover bits were promptly cleaned up.  006ab0faaa
