Welcome to Messages – SMS Messenger App (the "App") by Halifax Developer. This Privacy Policy explains how we handle your information when you use our App to send messages, chat easily, schedule texts, and manage messaging. We built this policy to be simple and clear, so you know exactly what's going on.
We do not require you to create an account or provide personal information. All data recovery operations happen locally on your device. We do not collect, share, or transmit any personal data to our servers or third parties through the App—everything stays on your device for core functionality like viewing SMS conversations and scheduling messages.
This policy covers our practices and applies to users worldwide, including under GDPR (EU), CCPA/CPRA (California), and CalOPPA. By using the App, you agree to these terms.
This Privacy Policy applies to the Messages – SMS Messenger App, an SMS app for sending messages, chatting, scheduling texts, and managing your inbox. It does not cover other Halifax Developer apps or websites.
Halifax Developer (Canada) develops and maintains the App. Contact us at

We follow Google Play Developer Program Policies, especially User Data and Data Safety rules. Our App declares in the Play Console Data Safety section that we do not collect any user data. Permissions access device data (like SMS) only for app features, and all processing is local—no data leaves your device via our App.
We do not collect any personal information from you. No names, emails, phone numbers, or other identifiers are sent to us.
The App accesses device SMS data, contacts, and phone state via Android permissions only to provide messaging features (e.g., showing conversations). This data stays on your device.
No user accounts or sign-ins mean we never receive or store your details.
Local caching (e.g., via Room Database) stores message summaries, drafts, and schedules on-device only for faster performance—no uploads occur.
For Data Safety on Google Play: No data collected. View our Play Store listing for details.
Under GDPR, we process minimal device data (via permissions) based on:
Contractual necessity: To deliver App features like SMS sending and inbox management.
Legitimate interests: Improving performance (e.g., local caching) without overriding your privacy.
No consent is needed for core features, as nothing is shared externally.
EU users can exercise rights below.
Our App requests Android permissions only for essential SMS features. You control them anytime in device Settings > Apps > Messages > Permissions. We explain each below, why it's needed, and how data stays local (no sharing).
android.hardware.telephony (feature, optional): Detects if your device supports SMS/calls. Allows installation on tablets; disables SMS if unavailable.
READ_SMS: Reads device SMS to show inbox, conversations, search messages, and timestamps. Essential for any SMS app.
WRITE_SMS: Writes sent messages/drafts to device storage (required as default SMS app). Updates statuses like "sent/delivered."
RECEIVE_SMS: Detects new SMS for real-time inbox updates and notifications.
SEND_SMS: Sends your messages via carrier (supports scheduling, multi-SIM).
READ_CONTACTS: Matches phone numbers to names/photos for better UX (e.g., "Mom" instead of "+1-xxx"). No contacts are stored or shared.
SCHEDULE_EXACT_ALARM (up to Android 12): Schedules exact-time sends reliably, even in doze mode.
READ_PHONE_STATE: Checks SIM status/network for multi-SIM sending and carrier compatibility.
CALL_PHONE: Quick-dials contacts from chat screens.
POST_NOTIFICATIONS (Android 13+): Shows new message alerts.
WAKE_LOCK: Keeps device awake briefly for reliable scheduling/SMS tasks.
BROADCAST_SMS (receiver permission): Secures SMS reception from system only—prevents spoofing.
BROADCAST_WAP_PUSH (receiver permission): Securely receives MMS/WAP pushes.
SEND_RESPOND_VIA_MESSAGE: Enables quick replies from call screens (e.g., "Call later").
All permission data stays on-device. Revoke anytime—no impact on uninstall. See Android Permissions Documentation for details.
Local only: Message data, drafts, and caches use Room Database on your device. Nothing is uploaded.
No cloud sync: We don't store or access your data remotely.
Security: Standard Android protections (e.g., app sandboxing). Uninstall deletes everything. We use best practices but can't guarantee against device theft/malware—keep your phone secure.
We use open-source libraries for performance/UI—no personal data collection. Details:
Firebase SDK (Firebase Privacy Policy): Analytics, crash reports, push notifications, config, performance. Google handles any data per their
Privacy Policy and Terms
Room Database (androidx): Local storage for message summaries, drafts, schedules—on-device only, no transmission.
Lottie (Airbnb): UI animations (loaders, onboarding)—no data handled.
Glide (Bumptech): Efficient image loading/caching—no network data collected by us.
Hilt (Google): Dependency injection—code management only.
Shimmer (Facebook): Loading placeholders—no data.
These improve UX but don't access/share personal info. Review each policy:
Ads: Yes (AdMob, AdX, Facebook/Meta, InMobi, Vungle, AppLovin). Ad networks may collect device info (e.g., IP, ad ID) for targeting per their policies:
Analytics: Firebase (anonymized crash/usage stats to improve App—no personal data).
Opt out via device ad settings or ad network apps.
No cookies—Android app. Ad SDKs may use device ads ID (resettable in settings).
No personal data processed by us. Device permissions access SMS/contacts locally for features. Ad/analytics SDKs handle their own minimal tracking (see section 7).
Local data deleted on uninstall. No servers, so no retention by us.
Yes, in-app purchases/subscriptions via Google Play Billing.
All payments handled safely by Google—we do not collect/store payment details (cards, passwords).
Subscriptions: Auto-renew unless canceled in Google Play settings. Access premium until period ends.
Purchase info: Google shares limited non-personal status (e.g., "active") to unlock features.
Refunds: Via Google Play rules.
No sharing with third parties except Google verification.
See Google Play Terms of Service and Google Privacy Policy
EU/EEA rights: Access, correct, delete (uninstall), object, restrict, portability (local data). Contact us.
California rights: Know, delete (uninstall), opt-out of "sales" (no sales by us). No personal data collected.
We honor DNT signals where possible; ad SDKs vary—check their policies.
No data transferred by us. SDKs (e.g., Firebase/Google) may involve global servers per their policies.
App scanned; no malware. Permissions don't enable misuse.
Links to Google Play/third-party policies—no endorsement.
Not for under 13. No child data collected.
We cooperate with law but hold no data.
We'll notify via App/Play Store for material changes.
