No POTA (Parks On The Air) is a world wide program of state and national parks. There is also an annual event Ohio State Parks On The Air which is not associated with Summit Parks On The Air
No this program is available to everyone. You can choose to be an park activator by visiting and operating from the parks or you can be a chaser by operating from anywhere in the world and work activated parks.
No, although we are kicking off the program during the park's 100th anniversary year we plan on continuing the program as long as there is interest.
Yes, not only is it allowed but it is strongly suggested to maximize number of contacts.
No, you only need to make one contact or more to count as an activation. You can also use your activations to claim credit for the entity you activate toward total numbers required for an award.
No, it is an independent program sponsored by the Cuyahoga Falls Amateur Radio. We asked SMP if they were OK with us doing the awards and they were happy to have us doing this program.
It depends on where and how you will be doing your operating. If you think you will need a special use permit application, they are available here: https://www.summitmetroparks.org/special-use-permit.aspx.
You can work from any of the 16 parks, but also the 23 trailheads for the hiking and biking trails. For example on Young Rd. in Stow (near Silver Springs City park there is a parking lot for the Bike & Hike Trail this would be entity YR- Young Road Trailhead. There is a second trailhead SS-Silver Springs within the actual park You can find these entities on individual maps for the three trails.
