Each of us is a moving ecosystem. Our bodies are home to trillions of bacterial cells that have a major influence on our health. I combine microbial physiology with ecological and evolutionary approaches to study the human microbiome. My research focuses on understanding how dietary glycans shape gut microbial communities by mechanisms like niche partitioning and cross-feeding. Going forward, I plan to build on these findings, together with non-genetic functionalization tools, to develop new strategies for precise microbiome modulation.
I'm currently a James S. McDonnell and Rubicon postdoctoral fellow in the lab of Otto Cordero at MIT.
