Welcome to the SMML Guidelines.
1 - MAX MODE QUALIFICATION (WHAT'S CLASSIFIED A MAXMODE?)
In the FNaF maxmoding scene, a Max Mode is generally classified as a non-campaign night in any FNaF game that is a custom night, with all AIs set to their max. These modes can be placed on the SMML.
Bonus Modes, while not meeting the criteria in the paragraph above, being any mode outside the main campaign that can be accessed through special means (E.g extras, secret codes, etc.), can still place given they're difficult enough.
For a mode to place, it must be functional, have actually substantial gameplay happening (AKA no 1-input joke modes) , and be made in Scratch, or any of its early versions or mods (Scratch 2.0, Turbowarp, Penguinmod, etc.)
Any night that doesn't meet any of those two criterias are barred from placing on the SMML.
2 - LIST LIMITS
The SMML has some limits in place for mode placements, as to not have the list be too overcrowded with modes. To understand those, we first have to understand the list structure:
The list is seperated into 8 tiers ( Tier 0 to Tier 7 ) ( plus an additional Extended List ) to keep rankings organized, and to make the list less difficult to manage.
Tier 0 is reserved for the top 1 Max Mode at the moment, and as the tier increases, the modes get progressively easier.
Modes CANNOT place if they are simply the original, with a self imposed challenge to make it incredibly RNG (e.g Positive Dinosaur) and simply make it an easier version of the base mode. They CAN place however, if it makes the base mode more difficult.
There is a limit of 12 modes that can be placed from one game. This is to discourage the overpopulation of the list from modes from one singular game whilst simultaneously allowing for a wider variety of modes from said game, this number is subject to change in the future.
3 - Ranking Information
A mode must have been beaten by at least one person with video proof. The video must be permanent and viewable by anyone with the link.
Any and all modes are subject to changes in placement, name, and statistics at any time pending staff discussion.
ALL max modes from any base game, mod, or buff mod are eligible for placement so long as they contain unique mechanics or vary in difficulty enough from similar games.
The placement eligibility of low quality bonus modes with borderline non-FNaF mechanics is subject to staff discussion.
The placement eligibility of low quality bonus modes with borderline non-FNaF mechanics is subject to staff discussion.
4 - Records And Eligibility
The entire duration of a submission from the starting frame of the mode to the win screen must be captured on video (audio included), not just a few seconds or half the run.
Any external client, hack, speed hack, altered MFA, or unapproved build of an existing game, and/or plug-in that affects the gameplay in such a way that it differs even slightly from the original product is not allowed.
Splicing, heavily editing a completion, stealing someone else’s completion, distorting or removing the audio, and cutting the video are not allowed.
We typically consider a mode beaten when the win screen is triggered or the time listed on the AML website is reached.
A visible cursor is required in all PC completions. Any records submitted on console or mobile are exempt from this requirement.
Failure to follow these criteria may result in the removal of records or a blacklist.
Records for harder modes may be accepted for easier modes if the mechanics and gameplay are similar enough.
