The Signature Management Lab (SML) is dedicated to advancing defense engineering in the maritime domain through rigorous research and pioneering innovation. Our work spans total ship survivability, stealth technology, noise and vibration control, prognosis and health management, and materials and structural engineering-key areas essential for developing resilient, low-detectability, and high-performance maritime vessels that meet the evolving demands of modern naval operations.
A distinctive feature of our research approach is the use of game-engine-based simulation platforms, enabling detailed modeling and analysis of complex maritime scenarios. These platforms provide an interactive, high-fidelity environment, allowing for realistic visualization, iterative design testing, and performance optimization-critical components in enhancing ship survivability and operational effectiveness.
Beyond research, SML is committed to educational innovation, fostering a hands-on learning environment where theory and practice are seamlessly integrated. By equipping future defense engineers and maritime specialists with both foundational knowledge and applied expertise, we ensure they are prepared to tackle the challenges of maritime defense and sustainability with confidence and technical excellence.
SML is a member of Open Grid Laboratory (OGLAB).
