Research for technical exploration and the creation of new product or service concepts
Timeline: Personal information management system (2018-2019, Huawei)
In a personal information assistant system development project, I conducted research on how people manage future plans and store and retrieve past information. This involved summarizing existing tool functionalities through literature reviews and conducting interviews studies. Based on the results, I engaged in discussions within the project team, contributing to the system architecture design and UI design.

User experience research of video on demand service (1997-1998, NTT)
Conducted UX evaluation of Video on Demand (VOD) trial service (one year project with Microsoft with 300 home participants). Designed the survey, conducted data analysis and reporting.
User experience of network connection on train (2002, Nokia)
Conducted UX evaluation of mobile IPv6 trial service on train with Railway companies in Japan, Odakyu and Keikyu. Designed the survey, conducted data analysis and reporting.
Crime prevention for cars (2009-2010, Toyota InfoTechnology Center)
Conducted a literature review to compile available technologies for enhancing the security of vehicles against crimes such as car theft and break-ins. Additionally, I proposed directions for future research and development in this field.
Survey on the Sense of Ownership of Cars (2008-2009, Toyota InfoTechnology Center, with external collaborators)
To gain insights for designing products that bring joy through ownership, I conducted a concept analysis to understand the factors that constitute a sense of ownership through literature review, brainstorming, and focus group interviews.
Communication robot research (2007-2008, Nokia)
To explore the potential needs for household communication robots, I conducted a survey on robot development trends through literature review and an investigation into attachment to artifacts using anthropological approaches through visit interviews.
Additionally, I collaborated with university researchers to experimentally examine how robot motions are perceived and interpreted by the participants. These results were reported to the development team and contributed to the prototype design.
Survey on the UI of Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) implemented in automobile (2021, Huawei)
Brain Machine Interface (BMI) technology review (2021, Huawei)
Haptic UI research review (2022-2023, Huawei)
The utilization of gaze information in automotive HMI (2020, Huawei)
Conducted literature reviews and coauthored a white paper of the technology and application using information from human eyes in HMI
Non-contact driver status monitoring technology (2008-2009, Toyota InfoTechnology Center)
Conducted research on physiological sensing technologies applicable in cars to estimate the driver's alertness and fatigue levels. In addition to literature review, I also collaborated with an external research firm to simulate the detection of heart movements using microwaves. The results of electromagnetic field simulations were then reported.
Physiological and behavioral sensing technologies (2010-2015, Toyota InfoTechnology Center)
Conducted a series of literature reviews on the state-of-art technologies for sensing physiological information, body movements, facial expressions, and similar data from humans. These methods aim to estimate drivers alertness, fatigue, and cognitive load.
Survey on map information delivery methods (2016, iMics, Inc.)
Investigated how map data for GPS systems in various manufacturers' cars is updated.
Assistive technology for web browsing (2002, NN-group)
Designed and conducted contextual user interviews to investigate assistive technologies for people with visual and motor impairments.
