(August 19, 2020 - Hedgesville, WV) The Working Families Party (WFP) of West Virginia has endorsed the candidacy of Robert E. Smith for House of Delegates. Affiliated with WV Can’t Wait, Smith is the Mountain Party’s nominee for the 59th District, where no Democrat filed to run.
"The Working Families Party is excited to support Robert E. Smith this November. Berkeley and Morgan counties deserve an honest, independent voice representing them in Charleston," said State Director of WFP Ryan Frankenberry. "In the most partisan election of our lives, it is refreshing to have Robert E. Smith as a unifying voice for House District 59."
The 59th District covers the North-Western portion of Berkeley County and the Eastern portion of Morgan County. The district’s GOP incumbent, Larry Kump, was defeated by Ken Reed, who faces a challenger on his right from “No Affiliation” candidate Patricia “Patch” Adams.
“We have a unique opportunity here in the 59th,” said Smith, “In this bizarre election year with shocking upsets in the primary, anything can happen this November in a three-way race with an open seat. Our campaign is working hard to win in November. If we make this campaign known to all the voters in the district, we can win this election.”
For the 2020 election, any voter can request an absentee ballot, which will be sent through the mail beginning September 18. Early voting in-person will take place from October 21 to 31. Election Day is Tuesday November 3 from 6:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. (EST).
