CHARLESTON, WEST VIRGINIA — Robert Edward Smith pre-filed his candidacy for House of Delegates in the 59th District. He is seeking the Mountain Party's nomination by convention, forgoing the Primary Election. If nominated, he will be on the General Election Ballot.
The other candidates running in the 59th District include GOP incumbent Larry Kump and GOP challenger Ken Reed. The Democratic Party declined to field a candidate.
"Initially I had zero intention to run for office, but when I learned that the voters of the 59th District would have no choice for Delegate in the General Election, the decision to run became clear as day," said Smith.
Despite the late start, Smith is committed to running a serious campaign and plans to work with the WV Can't Wait movement, which is already transforming the state of politics in West Virginia.
