The focus of music at Smithton School is to provide students with many enjoyable experiences in music and opportunity to learn and develop a variety of music-related skills. Through singing, playing, listening, and reading, your student will experience the various elements of music. In class, students will be introduced to various styles and kinds of music.
Students will have many opportunities to excel in musical performance, reading music and musical literature, and evaluating musical form with varying structures.
In music class we will:
Sing, play, and evaluate music
Listen to music from various musical eras
Learn to sing on pitch
Play classroom instruments, recorder, ukulele and others
Perform singing activities that will help your student to grow in sight-reading, pitch-matching, and harmony performance
Learn to sing solfege and sign pitches.
Learn to become life-long lovers of music!
About Mr. Provost
Hi! My name is Mr. Provost. I am so incredibly excited to be the music teacher at Smithton School! I am the general music teacher for grades K-5 and serve as the band and choir director for grades 6-8.
Before landing in Illinois, I taught band, choir, and general music in schools in both Northeast Ohio and Northern California. In addition to teaching music at Smithton CCSD 130, I am also the Director of Music at St. John's United Church of Christ.
I live in Shiloh with my wife Alisha and our labrador retriever, Ruby.
