Welcome to Mrs. Smith's sixth grade website!
I am teaching math and science for my homeroom and Mrs. Wyant's homeroom. I am very excited to start the school year. We will be incorporating new activities for math and science along with some online pieces. Let's have an amazing year!
This year in math students will be working on an online program called ALEKS. This will be a digital program that will go over math concepts. This program is also used in the junior high. This will be an independent program that students will work on as homework during the week. They will be assigned 2 topics a week to complete. They may choose to do any topic. They may bring a device to school to work on this when they have extra time or during study hall.
Schoology will also be utilized which is also an online program most used last year where assignments and assessments will be posted. Edulastic will used as an assessment tool. Students will be able to work on problem solving and review concepts in math on Friday's in class with a variety of games.
In science this year, we will start with minerals and the rock cycle. Students will complete a mineral grid in class that enables them to work at their own pace. We will have teacher led instruction along with a new program called Gizmos. This is an online science program that allows students to interact with science simulations.
Schoology will also be utilized in science where assignments and assessments will be posted. Edulastic will be used as an assessment tool. Students will be working on individualized stem projects and activities this year to guide them in scientific inquiry.
Class dojo
Class dojo will be used as our class communication piece. Please make sure you are signed up. If you need the code email me at smith.michelle@lexington.k12.oh.us and I will forward the code to you. I will post pictures and give class updates on class dojo. It is also used as a behavior tracker for students.
