World Smile Day is celebrated on the first Friday of October. (For this year, that's the 7th of October!)
A relatively new holiday, it has a fascinating backstory.

Harvey Ball is the man behind the symbol we use to show the smile!
He never applied for a copyright for his design, and although this symbol is used globally, he only earned $45 for his efforts!
Harvey took the initiative to start World Smile Day in 1999. He believed that the overuse of the symbol he had created started to lead it away from its intended goodwill idea, and he wanted to change that!

That's the motto of the Harvey Ball World Smile Foundation - a globally recognized non-profit organization dedicated to Harvey Ball.
