Data freshness
The trade and holding data in smileNgrow Version 1.0 is a curated snapshot and is not updated in real time. We plan to add live data feeds in a future update. All US trades are labeled with their disclosure date so you can see exactly when each trade was reported.
What is a congressional trade disclosure?
Under the Stop Trading on Congressional Knowledge Act (STOCK Act) of 2012, all members of the US Congress — both senators and representatives — must publicly disclose any stock trade worth more than $1,000 within 45 days of the transaction. This applies to trades made by the member, their spouse, and dependent children.
How to browse trades
Open the US Trades tab. Trades are displayed newest first by disclosure date. Scroll down to see older disclosures.
How to filter trades
Tap the filter icon (top right) to expand the filter bar. You can filter by:
Party (Democrat, Republican, Independent)
Trade type (Buys, Sells, Exchanges)
Chamber (Senate, House)
Multiple filters can be active at the same time. Tap a filter chip again to deactivate it.
How to search
Tap the search bar and type any politician name, ticker symbol, company name, or sector. Results update instantly as you type.
What do the trade cards show?
Each trade card shows:
Politician name, party affiliation, state, and chamber
Trade type badge (BUY / SELL / EXCHANGE) with colour coding
Ticker symbol, estimated amount range, and disclosure date
A share button (↑) and bookmark button (★)
Tapping a ticker chip
Any gold ticker symbol is tappable. Tap it to open the Stock Detail page which shows all politicians who have traded or hold that ticker, alongside a live Yahoo Finance chart.
Tapping a trade card
Tap anywhere on a trade card to open the full Trade Detail view which includes disclosure date, trade date, days to disclose, sector, chamber, related trades in the same ticker by other politicians, and the AI Analyzer button.
What does "days to disclose" mean?
This is the number of days between the actual trade date and the date the politician filed the disclosure. The STOCK Act requires disclosure within 45 days. A value shown in red means the filing was late.
What do the amount ranges mean?
Congress members are only required to report an estimated range, not the exact amount. The ranges are:
$1,000 – $15,000
$15,001 – $50,000
$50,001 – $100,000
$100,001 – $250,000
$250,001 – $500,000
Over $500,000
A "$500K+" trade could be $500,000 or $50 million — the exact amount is never disclosed.
What is an ECI affidavit?
Every candidate standing for election to the Indian Parliament must file a sworn affidavit with the Election Commission of India declaring their assets, liabilities, income, criminal record, and educational qualifications. This includes all stock holdings in their own name, their spouse's name, and jointly held assets.
Where does smileNgrow get this data?
The data is sourced from ECI affidavits published on the official myneta.info platform run by the Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR), a non-partisan transparency organization. All data is publicly available under Indian election law.
How to browse India holdings
Open the India tab. Politicians are listed by number of holdings (most to least). Tap any card to see their full declared portfolio.
How to filter
Tap the filter icon to filter by party (BJP, INC, AAP, SP, TMC, Other) or by chamber (Lok Sabha or Rajya Sabha).
What do the holding types mean?
Direct — the MP holds the shares personally in their own name
Spouse — the shares are held in the MP's spouse's name, but must be declared
Joint — shares held jointly between the MP and their spouse or family member
What do the holding size ranges mean?
India MP holdings are declared in rupee value ranges at the time of the ECI filing:
₹1L – ₹10L
₹10L – ₹50L
₹50L – ₹1Cr
₹1Cr – ₹5Cr
₹5Cr – ₹25Cr
₹25Cr+
These reflect declared values at time of filing and do not reflect current market prices.
The India Wealth tab ranks all MPs in our database by their declared net worth as reported in their ECI affidavit. Tap any MP to see a full breakdown including:
Total assets declared
Total liabilities
Net worth (assets minus liabilities)
Movable assets (cash, bank deposits, stocks, jewellery, vehicles)
Immovable assets (land, property)
Stock and securities value specifically
Important note: These figures are self-declared by the candidate and are not independently verified or audited. Actual wealth may differ significantly from declared amounts. Values reflect the time of filing, not current market prices.
The Conflict Scanner flags US congressional trades that may represent a potential conflict of interest — specifically, cases where a politician bought or sold stock in a company that operates in a sector directly regulated by a committee they sit on.
How conflicts are identified
Each flagged trade includes:
The politician's name and committee assignment
The stock traded and whether it was bought or sold
The severity level (High Risk or Medium Risk)
A written explanation of why the trade was flagged
Severity levels
High Risk — the trade occurred in the same sector as the politician's primary committee responsibility and involves a large amount
Medium Risk — the trade is in a related sector or involves circumstantial timing
Important legal disclaimer
A conflict of interest flag does NOT mean the politician has broken any law. Trading on material non-public information is illegal under the STOCK Act, but simply owning or trading stocks in regulated sectors is not illegal on its own. These flags are provided purely for transparency and public awareness. smileNgrow does not make any legal claims or accusations against any individual.
The Heatmap tab shows a colour-coded grid of all sectors that appear in US congressional disclosures, coloured by their buy-to-sell ratio.
Colour meaning
Dark green — HOT BUY (over 75% buys)
Light green — Bullish (55–75% buys)
Amber — Neutral (45–55% buys)
Light red — Bearish (25–45% buys)
Dark red — SELL OFF (under 25% buys)
Each cell also shows the exact percentage and the raw buy/sell counts. This helps you see at a glance which sectors Congress collectively believes in right now.
The Party vs tab shows how Democrats and Republicans differ in their trading behaviour by sector. The top of the screen shows overall buy and sell counts for each party. Below that, each sector has a proportional bar showing the Democrat-to-Republican split of buys.
This is useful for spotting partisan investing themes — for example, Democrats buying predominantly Clean Energy while Republicans favour Defence and Energy.
The Trending tab shows the most-traded stock tickers across all congressional disclosures, ranked by total number of disclosures. Each card shows:
Rank and ticker symbol
Company name and sector
Total trade count
Buy vs sell breakdown with a proportional colour bar
Names of politicians who traded that stock
smileNgrow includes a full ETF section covering both US and Indian markets.
US ETFs
The US ETFs tab shows 5 top ETFs favoured by Congress members — VOO, VTI, QQQ, VGT, and SCHD. Each card shows YTD return, 1-year return, 5-year return, expense ratio, AUM, and congressional buy count. Tap any card to see full detail including top 10 holdings, why to invest, and a congressional interest section.
India ETFs
The India ETFs tab shows 6 top NSE-listed ETFs — NIFTYBEES, JUNIORBEES, MIRAE_NIFTY50, ICICINIFTY, NETFMID150, and MAFANG. Each card shows YTD, 1-year, 3-year, and 5-year returns alongside expense ratio and AUM. Tap any card to see full detail including the index tracked, top holdings, how to buy guide, and the embedded SIP calculator.
ETF Comparison
The Compare tab lets you pick any two India ETFs and compare them side by side across performance, cost, risk, category, fund house, and shared top holdings.
The SIP Calc tab is a standalone calculator for projecting the growth of a Systematic Investment Plan in Indian ETFs.
How to use it
Tap the ETF selector button to choose which India ETF to base the calculation on. The expected return slider will auto-fill with the ETF's approximate historical CAGR.
Adjust the Monthly SIP Amount slider or tap the value to type a specific number.
Adjust the Investment Period slider (1–40 years).
Adjust the Expected CAGR slider if you want to use a custom rate.
What the results show
Estimated corpus — total projected value at end of period
Total invested — total rupees you would have put in
Estimated gains — corpus minus invested amount
Multiplier — how many times your investment grows
Invested vs gains bar — visual proportion of invested capital vs market gains
Year-by-year milestone table — projected values at years 3, 5, 10, 15, 20, and 30
Disclaimer
The SIP calculator uses standard compound interest mathematics for illustration purposes. Actual ETF returns vary and are not guaranteed. This is not financial advice. Historical returns do not predict future performance.
The AI Trade Analyzer uses Claude, Anthropic's AI model, to generate an educational explanation of any US congressional trade.
How to access it
Open any US trade detail page and tap the sparkle icon (✦) in the top right, then tap the "Analyze This Trade" button.
What the AI explains
The AI generates a 3–4 paragraph analysis covering:
Why the trade is noteworthy given the politician's role and the sector
What committee assignments or legislation could be relevant
What the timing of the trade might suggest based on days to disclose
Any historical context or pattern for this politician
Important AI disclaimer
AI analysis is generated by a language model and is for educational and entertainment purposes only. It is not fact-checked, legally verified, or financially validated. The AI can make mistakes or produce inaccurate statements. Do not make investment or legal decisions based on AI output. Always verify important information with official sources.
Why is the analysis loading slowly?
The AI analyzer requires an active internet connection and makes a live API call to Anthropic's servers. Analysis typically takes 5–15 seconds depending on your connection speed.
Why does it say "Check API key"?
The AI feature requires a valid Anthropic API key to be configured. If you see an error message about the API key, please contact support at patelshashwat0@gmail.com.
How to enable alerts
Go to the Alerts tab. Tap the "Allow" button in the notification permission banner. iOS will then show its standard notification permission dialog — tap "Allow" to grant permission.
How to follow a politician
In the Alerts tab, scroll to find the politician you want to follow and toggle the switch to ON. You can follow multiple politicians simultaneously.
Test notification
Once you have at least one politician followed, a "Send Test Notification" button appears. Tap it to receive a test push notification within 5 seconds. This confirms your notification permissions are working correctly.
Daily Digest
Enable the Daily Digest toggle in Settings to receive a morning notification at 8am every day with the top 3 most recent congressional trade disclosures. You can turn this off at any time in Settings.
Why am I not receiving notifications?
If notifications are not arriving, check the following:
Go to iPhone Settings → smileNgrow → Notifications and confirm "Allow Notifications" is on
Make sure your phone is not in Focus or Do Not Disturb mode
Ensure Low Power Mode is not blocking background activity
Try sending a Test Notification from the Alerts tab
How to add a politician to your Watchlist
Tap the bookmark icon (★) on any trade card, politician row, or politician detail page. A filled gold star indicates the politician is in your Watchlist.
Viewing your Watchlist
Open the Watchlist tab. You will see all US trades from followed politicians listed newest first, followed by all India holdings from followed politicians.
Clearing your Watchlist
Go to Settings → Account → Clear Watchlist. Confirm to remove all followed politicians at once. Individual politicians can be removed by tapping their star again anywhere in the app.
Does my Watchlist sync across devices?
In Version 1.0 the Watchlist is stored locally on your device using UserDefaults. It does not sync across devices or iCloud. This will be addressed in a future update.
The Simulator tab lets you answer the question: "What if I had copied this politician's disclosed trades?"
How to use it
Scroll the politician carousel at the top and tap to select any politician
Tap the starting amount field and enter a USD amount (default $100,000)
The simulator equally divides your starting amount across all the politician's disclosed trades and applies approximate price changes to each position
Results show total simulated P&L, return percentage, winners vs losers, and a per-trade breakdown
Important simulator disclaimer
Simulated returns use approximate historical price changes for illustration only. They do not account for trade timing, bid-ask spreads, taxes, brokerage fees, position sizing, or the fact that congress members may hold positions much longer than the data implies. This is not a backtesting tool and should not be used to make investment decisions.
The Cluster tab finds stocks where 2 or more US politicians bought within a 90-day window — a "cluster buy" signal.
Each cluster card shows the ticker, signal strength, number of politicians involved, day span between first and last trade, and a list of the politicians in the cluster. Tap any cluster to see the full list of individual trades with dates and amounts.
Signal strength levels
Very Strong — 4 or more politicians
Strong — 3 politicians
Moderate — 2 politicians
Disclaimer
A cluster buy is not evidence of coordination, insider trading, or wrongdoing. Multiple politicians may independently reach the same investment conclusion for entirely separate reasons. This feature is provided for transparency and pattern awareness only.
The Global Overlap tab shows companies that appear in both US congressional trade disclosures and Indian MP ECI affidavits — stocks that are popular with powerful people in both countries simultaneously.
Examples include major global companies like Microsoft, Apple, Alphabet, Amazon, Infosys, and Wipro which appear in both datasets.
Each card shows the company, the number of US Congress members who traded it, and the number of Indian MPs who hold it.
The Glossary tab contains 12 educational entries explaining key concepts used throughout the app. Each entry includes a plain-language definition and a real-world example. Entries are categorised as Law, Disclosure, Ethics, Analysis, Investing, or India.
Tap any glossary card to expand it and see the full definition and example. Tap again to collapse. You can search by keyword or filter by category using the chips at the top.

Third party services
The Stock Detail page embeds a Yahoo Finance chart via WebView. When you view a stock detail page, Yahoo Finance's standard web privacy policies apply to that embedded content.
Is this app affiliated with the US Congress or the Indian government?
No. smileNgrow is an independent app built by an individual developer. We are not affiliated with the US Congress, the STOCK Act enforcement bodies, the Securities and Exchange Commission, the Election Commission of India, or any government body.
Is this financial advice?
No. Nothing in smileNgrow constitutes financial advice, investment recommendations, or legal analysis. Always consult a licensed financial advisor before making investment decisions.
Why does the AI Analyzer sometimes produce inaccurate information?
AI language models can make mistakes, hallucinate facts, or produce plausible-sounding but incorrect statements. The AI Analyzer is for educational entertainment only. Do not rely on it for factual claims.
Can I trust the trade data?
US trade data is sourced from official STOCK Act filings on the House and Senate disclosure portals. India MP data is sourced from ECI affidavits. We display data as reported — we do not independently verify or audit it. Errors in the original filings will be reflected in the app.
Why is some data from 2020 or earlier?
Some trades shown in the app are from earlier years to provide historical context and complete portfolio views for certain politicians. All disclosure dates are shown on each trade card.
Why does the Stock Detail page show a blank chart?
The Yahoo Finance chart requires an active internet connection. If the chart appears blank, check your internet connection. Yahoo Finance's availability may also vary by region.
How often is the data updated?
Version 1.0 contains a curated snapshot of data. We plan to add live data feeds in a future version. Follow our updates on the App Store.
Can I export my Watchlist or data?
Not in Version 1.0. Export functionality is planned for a future update.
The app crashed. What should I do?

I found a data error. How do I report it?
Please email patelshashwat0@gmail.com with the subject line "Data Error" and include the politician name, ticker, and what you believe is incorrect. We will investigate and correct it in the next update.
Does smileNgrow work offline?
Most features work offline as data is bundled with the app. The AI Trade Analyzer, the Yahoo Finance stock chart, and any live data features require an internet connection.
Will there be an Android version?
No Android version is currently planned. smileNgrow is an iOS-only app.
Data is a curated snapshot and not updated in real time in Version 1.0
The Portfolio Simulator uses approximate price changes for illustration only and is not a real backtesting engine
The AI Trade Analyzer requires an internet connection and API configuration
The Watchlist does not sync across devices in Version 1.0
Yahoo Finance charts may not load in all regions due to regional availability
The app is optimised for iPhone — iPad layout is not optimised in Version 1.0
