Who we are
We are The University of Lynchburg’s Student Managed Investment Fund, also known as “SMIF.” We have grown with the mission to allow undergraduate students the opportunity to have real-life engagement with investing and administrative experiences. We are composed of students from many different majors at the University of Lynchburg from biomedical science and philosophy to financial economics and marketing.
What we do
We manage a portion of the University's endowment, investing primarily in stocks and bonds with the goal to generate returns over time. While our main function is to invest and grow our capital, we offer other opportunities and positions to help develop a wide set of business skills. You could learn a variety of business skills from researching in the broad market to aiding in the hiring and training process. As a member of the Investment fund there are opportunities to acquire Bloomberg certification, travel to conferences and forums across the nation, and make formal presentations to colleagues, faculty, and University Board of Trustee members.
Why should you join
You should apply to join SMIF if you are interested in learning more about the financial markets for your own personal investing goals, collaborating with fellow students, or preparing yourself for your future career. Members are dedicated to learning and teaching one another about the intricacies of the financial markets and a myriad of business skills. We look forward to receiving your application!
