Hello and welcome to Smemo, your private digital sanctuary. We are, and always will be, deeply committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how Smemo handles your data.

Our core promise remains unchanged: Your personal memories—the stories, the photos, the feelings—are yours and yours alone. They are stored on your device and are not shared with us or any third party for advertising.

To keep Smemo free and continuously improve it for our beautiful community, we have partnered with Google to show ads within the app. This policy explains how this works in a transparent way.

1. The Most Important Promise: Your Memories Are Still Private

Let us be very clear. The following data is NEVER collected, stored, or transmitted by us or our advertising partners:

• The content of your memories: The text you write, your personal stories, your thoughts, and feelings.

• Your photos: Any images you attach to your memories.

• Your tags: The personal tags you create, like #ख़ुशी or #peaceful.

• Your moods: The mood selections you use for healing.

This is your sacred space. We do not, and will not, mine your personal content for any reason.

2. How We Support Smemo (Advertising)

Smemo is free to use. To support the ongoing development and maintenance of the app, we display advertisements through Google AdMob.

Google AdMob is a third-party advertising network. It uses its own technology to show ads that are relevant to your interests. This means that Google may collect certain information about your use of Smemo and other apps to serve these ads.

3. Data Collected by Our Advertising Partner (Google AdMob)

Google, as our ad provider, may collect data for advertising purposes. This data is not your personal memories. It is typically device and usage data, which may include:

• Advertising ID: A unique, user-resettable ID for your device.

• Approximate Location: Derived from your IP address, not your device's GPS.

• Device Information: Such as device model, operating system version, and mobile network.

• App Usage: Information about how you interact with the app (e.g., which screens you view) to understand ad performance.

4. Data We Use (Only on Your Device)

Smemo's core features work entirely on your device. The app needs access to certain device functions and permissions to provide you with the experience you love. This data never leaves your phone.

• Local Storage: All your memories, photos, and app settings are stored securely on your device.

• Device Sensors (Accelerometer): Used to detect when you shake your phone for the "Memories Jar" feature.

• Storage Permission: Required to save your memories and photos to your device.

• Camera / Photo Gallery Permission: Used only when you choose to add a photo to a memory.

• Notification Permission (Optional): For the optional daily reminder.

5. The Optional Encrypted Backup Feature

This feature remains completely private and user-controlled.

• It's Your Choice: This feature is OFF by default.

• Local Encryption: Your backup file is encrypted on your device before you save it.

• You Control the Location: You save the backup file to a location you choose (e.g., Google Drive, your computer).

• We Cannot Access It: We cannot and will never be able to access your encrypted backups.

6. Your Choices Regarding Ads

We believe in giving you control. You can manage your ad preferences in the following ways:

• Opt-Out of Personalized Ads: You can choose to see ads that are less relevant to you. You can do this by visiting Google's Ads Settings: https://www.google.com/settings/ads

• Reset Your Advertising ID: You can reset your mobile device's Advertising ID at any time. On Android, go to Settings > Google > Ads > Reset advertising ID.

• Limit Ad Tracking: You can enable "Limit Ad Tracking" (or "Opt out of Ads Personalization") in your device's settings.

Please note that opting out of personalized ads does not mean you will no longer see ads, but the ads you see may be less relevant to you.

7. Children's Privacy

Smemo does not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 (or the applicable age in your jurisdiction). Google's ad policies are designed to not serve personalized ads to users in this age group. If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has provided us with information, please contact us.

8. Data Security

We take the security of your local data seriously. Your memories are protected by the security features of the Android operating system. While we implement security measures to protect the app, we cannot control the security practices of third-party services like Google AdMob.

9. Your Rights and Control

Since all your memory data is stored locally, you have complete and total control.

• Access & Edit: You can view, edit, or delete any memory at any time.

• Delete All: You can delete all your memories from the app's settings.

• Export/Backup: You can create an encrypted backup file at any time.

• Uninstall: Uninstalling the app will permanently delete all your memories from your device unless you have created a backup.

10. Changes to This Privacy Policy

If we ever change this Privacy Policy, we will post the updated version here and within the app. Any changes will be effective immediately upon posting.
