Maria MacLean-Guy
My name is Maria MacLean-Guy. I have been coaching for six years now. I’ve been volunteering with the Breakers since I was in grade eight. I’ve coached the Breakers for the past two summers and I’m very excited to begin this year as Head Coach. I’ve coached for multiple groups including the Breakers, the Halifax Trojans, and the Canada Games Centre. I just finished my first year of studying engineering at St. Mary’s University. Off the pool deck I love to hike, surf, camp, and ski. I’m excited to get this summer started and see you all at the pool soon!
Assistant Coaches
Molly Parker - Assistant Coach Swimmer Development
I will be returning for my 6th year coaching with the Breakers. I started swimming when I was 12 with the Breakers and moved on to swim varsity for Acadia University. I have been coaching swimming since I was 18 and volunteered with the Breakers while I was swimming. I have also been coaching volleyball since I was 14. I will be returning to Acadia University to complete my Bachelor of Education starting in September. Coaching has realized my passion for working with kids and helping them reach their full potential. I can't wait to get this season started!
Shaelyn Wadden - Assistant Coach
Hi! My name is Shaelyn Wadden, but I also go by Shae. I have been a coach for 5 years, and this will be my third year coaching the Breakers! In July 2020, I completed the Swimming 101 coaching course, and since then have completed my Safe Sport Training, Making Ethical Decisions, Diversity and Inclusion in Action and Commit To Kids For Coaches, and I am a VIP coach. In the fall, I will be starting my second year at NSCAD, working towards my Bachelor of Fine Arts with a major in photography. In my spare time, I love to draw, screenprint, go for long walks with my camera, and go swimming!
Julia Audette - Assistant Coach
Hello, my name is Julia Audette. I have spent over half of my life swimming with the Breakers! Throughout my years on the team, I have had many opportunities for training, including obtaining my Bronze Star, Medallion, and Cross, as well as completing the Swim Instructor, Community Coaching, and National Lifeguarding courses. Along with teaching swim lessons, coaching basketball, and filling in as a Breakers coach during spring maintenance, I have spent my time as a first-year psychology student at Acadia University volunteering with the S.M.I.L.E program helping youth reach new movement, social, and cognitive goals through swimming! I am incredibly excited to continue my journey with the Breakers as a coach and help kids gain confidence through swimming as I have throughout my eleven seasons with the team!
Junior Coach
Jesse Bouwman
Hi, I’m Jesse! I’m super excited to be on the Breaker’s Swim Team as the Junior Assistant Coach! This is my first year in this role and I’m looking forward to teaching, encouraging, motivating, and having tons of fun with the team. I started swimming at a young age, took swimming lessons in a quarry and reached my level 10 when I was 7 years old. I’ve been with the Breakers for 5 years; I love swimming and love to see others enjoy the sport as much as I do. I am certified as a Lifeguard, I’ve taken the Community Sport Coaching course, Safe Sport Training, and the CAC Make Ethical Decisions (MED) Course. A little bit about me is I love to workout, hang with my friends, and ride my motorcycle. Looking forward to working hard and having lots of fun in the pool and at swim meets!
