SmartType is a keyboard for iOS. Enabling it as an input method lets it read the current text field so typing, suggestions, undo, and optional AI features can work.

We do not collect: location, contacts, photos, browsing history, or advertising identifiers. We do not sell your data.
SmartType uses Google LLC's Gemini AI service to power Grammar fix, Word tone, and Translate.
Before any text is sent for AI processing, the app asks for your permission and explains:
What is sent: text in the current field, your Customise AI preferences (tone/style), and an anonymous device ID for quota
Who receives it: your data is sent to the SmartType server, which forwards the text to Google (Gemini) for AI processing
When: only when you tap an AI action and tap Agree — Share with Google Gemini
Google may process this data under Google's Privacy Policy. We require Google to protect user data consistent with this policy and applicable law.
You can revoke AI sharing permission anytime in the app: Privacy → Revoke AI sharing permission. AI features will ask again before sending data.
Theme, toolbar order, one-handed mode, clipboard items you save from the Clipboard panel, and Customise AI presets stay on the device (App Group).
We read the system clipboard only when you open the Clipboard panel — not continuously in the background.
When you use AI features (after consent), the relevant field text and your Customise AI preferences are sent to the SmartType backend. Our server forwards text to Google Gemini for processing. An anonymous device ID tracks word quota and subscription status. The Gemini API key is stored only on the server — never in the app.
Allow Full Access for AI network requests, clipboard (when you open Clipboard), and voice typing. Without Full Access, local typing still works but AI and clipboard features are limited.
SmartType is not directed at children under 13.
