SMARTFARM 2021 Workshop: Dec 15-18, 2021

According to the United Nations (UN), the world population is expected to exceed 9 billion people by 2050, growing almost a third of the current population. Such an increase in the population demands a boost of almost 70 percent in the food production rate, according to the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations. This rapidly growing population also introduces a variety of other problems such as increasing competition and exploitation of land, water and other natural resources. These issues present an urgent need to reduce the dependence of the food system on our environment. Consequently, the need for an evolutionary agricultural paradigm to keep up with growing demand of food and crop production is necessary to guarantee sustainable development.

Most recently, smart and precision agriculture is gaining more traction among industry and academia. Several enterprises are developing novel big data driven solutions for this evolving technology domain, but at the same time also raising security and privacy concerns to the introduction of sensors, big data, and AI in the conventional agriculture sector. The USDA also issued a white paper that envisages different applications and also highlights security concerns in this economically important sector for an agriculture dominant nation.

This workshop aims to bring together the experts from the agriculture, IoT, CPS, AI, and smart applications domain to develop synergy and exchange ideas to ensure secure smart agriculture applications. We envision developing this workshop as a premier platform for research on data driven applications aspects in the smart agriculture domain. We will invite submissions in areas (but not limited to) related to novel data driven applications, smart technologies, architectures and security solutions in smart agriculture areas including livestock, dairy, fisheries, smart greenhouse, food supply chain and other synergistic domains.
