Highlights of the event include: Keynote speeches by industry experts will provide invaluable insights into the cutting-edge developments in smart buildings.

Today at Meta Connect, in partnership with EssilorLuxottica, we announced our next-generation Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses collection. We redesigned these from the ground up, improving all the core features of the first generation while adding new capabilities that have never been seen on a pair of smart glasses before. They start at $299 USD. Pre-orders are open now on meta.com and ray-ban.com, and the smart glasses will be available for purchase online and in retail stores starting October 17.*

Power up: Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses are powered by the all-new Qualcomm Snapdragon AR1 Gen1 Platform, which enables higher quality photo and video processing and even faster compute. And the glasses come with a redesigned and sleek charging case, which holds up to eight additional charges (for a total of 36 hours of use) while being slimmer and even smaller.

The cameras, microphones and speakers are all improved this time, though, and a brand-new Qualcomm chip inside the glasses could be the start of a wave of other improved smart glasses in the next year. However, by comparison, Amazon's recently launched improved Echo Frames smart glasses, developed with glasses-maker Carrera, are audio-only.

Navigation still happens with voice commands or a touchpad on one glasses arm: The touchpad area is larger this time. A capture button on the edge of the frame can also trigger shots or start a livestream -- one of the glasses' biggest new features.

The upgraded chip in these glasses is aimed at AI features. Next year, Meta is promising AI onboard that will recognize objects in view of the cameras, or even read text. Generative AI could take photos and post them with AI-written captions. It's unclear how this will all feel or play out: Will these glasses feel like smart assistants, and when will that activate? Meta announced these upcoming features at its developer conference, but in the meantime it's a bit of a mystery as to how these new Ray-Bans could, perhaps, turn into a bit more of an AR-esque product minus displays.

The A&D industry has a history of early adoption of disruptive technologies to advance both product development and manufacturing processes. These technologies include additive manufacturing, advanced composite manufacturing methods, implementation of the digital twin, cognitive manufacturing and advanced analytics, robot/worker collaboration, and AI/ML, all of which are permeating many areas of the production process. In this livestream day, we will develop around the trends shaping the future of aerospace and defense in terms of technology and innovation are: Automation and digitization, Rise of automation and AI, increasing processing power, Data and connectivity: Increasing connectivity and security, Increasing data creation and Rapid development cycle (e.g. additive manufacturing and digitization) accelerating pace of innovation.

Just like the Quest 3, the name of the game is improvements across the board. No, the Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses do not have lenses capable of overlaying information in front of your vision like a heads-up display. But you do get new frame styles and colors that include a few transparent colorways, higher resolution ultra-wide cameras for capturing more within a photo or video, more microphones for clearer voice calls, a lot more storage, and louder and clearer speakers. In other words, the definition of a second-generation update.

I also really like the redesigned charging case. The case that came with Ray-Ban Stories smart glasses was bulky; the new one for Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses is 32 percent lighter and resembles the case you get with a pair of regular Ray-Ban sunglasses. The giveaway is the USB-C port and the button that glows to show its charging status.

Oh, thank god. Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses come with 32GB of built-in storage for storing photos and videos, which is way more than the paltry 4GB that came with Ray-Ban Stories smart glasses. Meta says the second-gen smart glasses can store up to 500 photos and 100 30-second videos in 1080p resolution.
