About me ...
I was raised in rural Idaho with my five siblings and spent the bulk of my time running around the woods with my little brother. Childcare began in high school and evolved into nanny positions for seasons that eventually turned into 10 years of caregiving. My newborn experience led me to partner with five mothers as they moved through postpartum, caring for the older toddlers and becoming a part of the household dynamic.
My degree in Pre-Art Therapy gave me a platform to better understand trauma, healing, and the deep emotions we all encounter in this life while my other degree in Visual Arts spearheaded my career as an artist. I spend most of my time our on the river with my husband, drawing and fishing.
When I learned about postpartum doulas I knew immediately that this was the role for me. I have completed the postpartum doula courses & a lactation course with Doulas Of North America and am now ready to see clients! I am an avid angler and artist with a holistic lifestyle (that also involves watching the Bachelor & baking any dessert I see on instagram).
In this whirlwind of a world there is nothing more valuable than someone that can hold space for you during a vulnerable stage and protect your time of healing and rejuvenation - and I would be honored to do that for you.
As a postpartum doula I am there to cushion your landing, support recovery, and fuel independence. Light cleaning, meal prep, stocking supplies, story sharing, laundry, and making space for your self-care are all tasks that fall under the doula umbrella. Anticipating your needs and wants is what I do best!
You may have questions, thoughts, or worries in the moment and instead of frantically researching what is going on you can simply ask your doula. Doulas are also connected to your community and can provide imperative referrals for lactation specialists, physical therapists, pediatricians, massage therapists, support groups, and can connect you to anything else you may need.
Your journey has already begun! The intuition & path that you want to raise your child on has already grown in your heart. When I join your family we look at the map together, and when you tell me where you want to go I will help you with my knowledge of that terrain. We brainstorm together, planning for the moments where it may get hard, making sure the supplies are appropriate, adequate, and at the ready. This has been and will continue to be a raw, beautiful, exhilarating experience for your new family and I will be there to ease your burden, hear your truth, hold your hand, and help you gain the fortitude to boldly venture on, on your own.
Any family that needs support should consider a postpartum doula. The families that could benefit the most are new parents, parents who don't have a large support system in town, adoptee parents, families that had a difficult pregnancy or birth, or anyone who could use an extra set of hands to soothe anxieties and stress. You could have a million reasons or one - I am here to help!
Preparation ...
As a doula I am here for you, not to sell you on the freshest baby items on the market. We will make sure that your space is prepared just as you envision. Whether that means having items for the first three months of baby ’s life or the first year, we will make sure you are well equipped. I have lists of supplies for the newborn phase and postpartum recovery that we can discuss for your shower wish list or nesting preparation if you would like.
Nourishment and comfort…
There are many amazing postpartum recipes that promote healing that I would love to show you. However I understand that we just want you to be hydrated & well fed. Sometimes that means one nourishing smoothie per day, other times that means the whole line of postpartum specific meal prep! Whatever route you feel most drawn to, we will get you taken care of.
The focus of our food prep will be warming foods and drinks to promote circulation after losing blood volume, hydration to encourage the flush of excess materials that helped baby grow, fiber intake to make those bathroom movements as easy as possible, and vitamins and minerals that replenish your energy. This is all to go hand in hand with your regular diet - those comfort foods and treats are essential too!
