The subsystem assembled using the components above facilitate low-light recording of bio-luminescent signals. Raw footage from two synchronised cameras and ostracod emission intensity measurements from Silicon Photomultiplier (SiPM) are sent to the computer system for processing and storage.

Data from the stereo imaging system is synchronized and stored as stereo vision footage and time-resolved ostracod emission pulses that correspond to the footage. This subsystem provides a user interface as well a interfaces with all other subsystems.

The DNA collection system is in a separate enclosure for modularity. Design focus was on optimal compactness and high flow rate. Rollers are used to pump controlled pulses of water at ~200 mL / minute to the eDNA sampling filter.

Enclosure design was optimized to minimize buoyancy and to completely contain all required components and wiring for bioluminescence stereo imaging. The internal tray was designed in Autodesk Fusion 360 and 3D printed at the CE Capstone Lab.

small · e will travel around the world to conduct field research in various oceans. Airport security requirements limit the maximum power rating of individual batteries that could be transported by plane. The wattage of two batteries are distributed to all components to facilitate a maximum runtime exceeding 12 hours.
