Talk to your advisor
Email local businesses and see if they have scholarship opportunities
Check out scholarships offered by greek organizations (national frats and sororities websites)
Naviance, City Hall, Libraries, and the College you want to attend might all offer scholarships so check them out
College Board Scholarship Search Engine
Make sure to ask schools you are interested in about scholarships offered directly by the school (most will have scholarships based on merit and service that they do not necessarily advertise)

Apply to a lot of scholarships to improve your chances
You can reuse essays across scholarship apps, just tweak them a bit
Organize scholarships by date and amount of money in excel sheet or google doc
Dedicate an hour a day or a couple hours a week to scholarship research and applications ← less likely to get overwhelmed if you pace yourself

- Colleges want to see who you are and what you are passionate about not just the classes and extracurriculars you took in school
Be creative & authentic & unique
Get multiple people to edit your essays
Start early
- Give yourself time to think about what you want to write
- Write a little, don't look at it for a few days, come back to it
  - This is why starting early is important
- Journal about your experiences right after you complete them

Talk about life experiences (persevering through challenges)
Get people you trust to edit!! → ask english teachers/or people that know you well (family)/ or pay college students to edit (links below - some are free)
- Be careful about having too many people edit essays. You could easily lose your voice.
