If you want a professional-grade, multi-bottle kit with a dedicated cleaning towel for comprehensive road trip preparation and deep engine maintenance, choose SMA ProQor Berryman 0116; if you need a simple, single-dose solution for routine tank top-ups and basic deposit removal on the go, choose Generic Car System Cleaner.
• SMA ProQor Berryman 0116: Its biggest strength is the heavy-duty, three-pack bundle that treats multiple tanks and includes a branded shop towel for cleanup, but it requires more upfront volume to use. This pick is for drivers who prioritize thorough, long-term fuel system health and like having extra supplies ready.
• Generic Car System Cleaner: Its biggest strength is the convenient, one-treats-one-tank format that fits easily into any glovebox, but it offers less total product volume per purchase compared to the premium kit. This pick is for drivers looking for a quick, no-fuss additive for regular maintenance without bulk.
The SMA ProQor Berryman 0116 kit is designed for the driver who views vehicle maintenance as a proactive, serious endeavor rather than a last-minute fix. The sheer volume and concentration suggest a formulation built for professionals or enthusiasts who want to tackle significant gum, varnish, and carbon deposits that have built up over time. When you are planning a long road trip across varying terrains and climates, having this level of cleaning power ensures your fuel injectors, carburetors, intake valves, and combustion chambers are cleared of the gunk that can cause hesitation or rough idling during critical moments.
The inclusion of the SMA ProQor branded shop towel adds a layer of practicality that many generic competitors ignore. Fuel additives often require handling, and spills happen. Having a dedicated towel specifically paired with the cleaner means you are prepared to wipe down the pump nozzle, clean up accidental drips in the garage, or even use it to keep your workspace tidy while performing other tune-up tasks. This attention to detail suggests the product is intended for someone who values a clean process alongside the chemical results. It transforms a simple pour-in task into a more organized maintenance session.
You should buy this kit if you drive older vehicles with high mileage, frequently tow heavy loads, or plan extensive travel where reliability is non-negotiable. The formula is engineered to circulate through the entire fuel system, helping to restore proper atomization and improve throttle response. If you are the type of person who prefers buying in packs to ensure you never run out during a long journey, this 3-pack configuration is ideal. However, if you only drive short distances around town and rarely push your engine hard, the sheer size and specific focus on heavy-duty cleaning might feel like overkill for your needs.

The Generic Car System Cleaner takes a different approach, focusing entirely on simplicity and immediate application. With a single 120 mL bottle designed to treat exactly one full tank of gas, it removes the guesswork from fuel maintenance. You simply pour the entire contents into your gas tank before refueling, fill the tank, and you are done. This "one-and-done" philosophy appeals to drivers who want to keep their vehicles running smoothly without investing in large kits or worrying about storing extra chemicals for years. It is a straightforward gasoline treatment option that addresses the daily reality of driving, where consistent performance matters more than deep, historical restoration.
This product shines when you need a reliable backup in the trunk for those unexpected long drives or when you just want to perform routine upkeep without the hassle of measuring or mixing. The marketing emphasizes steady drivability support, suggesting it helps reduce accumulated buildup that can disrupt fuel delivery. For the average commuter who wants smoother acceleration and better combustion quality on a daily basis, this single-dose bottle provides a convenient way to maintain engine health. It is particularly useful for modern engines that rely heavily on precise fuel injection timing, as keeping the injectors clear helps maintain that delicate balance.
However, the trade-off is the limited quantity. At 120 mL, you get one treatment per purchase. If you are preparing for a cross-country road trip and want to ensure your fuel system is thoroughly cleaned before departure, you would need to buy three separate bottles to match the coverage of the Berryman kit. This makes it less ideal for a one-time, heavy-duty prep job, but perfect for a subscription-style maintenance rhythm where you add a bottle every few thousand miles. It is best suited for drivers who prefer low-volume, frequent applications to keep their engines running cleanly over the long term.
• Best for Road Trip Prep: SMA ProQor Berryman 0116 wins because the three-pack allows you to treat multiple tanks or use a larger dose to clear stubborn deposits before hitting the highway.
• Best for Minimalist Storage: Generic Car System Cleaner is superior here; its compact 120 mL size fits anywhere and doesn't clutter your garage or trunk with bulky packaging.
• Best for Heavy Carbon Buildup: SMA ProQor Berryman 0116 is the stronger choice for dissolving thick varnish and gum in older engines due to the higher volume and professional-strength formulation.
• Best for Routine Monthly Maintenance: Generic Car System Cleaner offers a simpler workflow for drivers who just want to keep their fuel system clean with a quick pour every time they fill up.
• Best for On-the-Go Simplicity: Generic Car System Cleaner requires zero setup; just pour and go, making it ideal for spontaneous stops or quick maintenance checks.
• Best for Workspace Cleanup: Only the SMA ProQor kit includes the branded shop towel, giving you a practical tool for mess management that the generic option lacks.
• Best for Catalytic Converter Safety: Both claim to be safe for oxygen sensors and catalytic converters, but the Berryman formula explicitly markets itself as a professional-grade additive for extended component life.
For a road trip, I recommend the SMA ProQor Berryman 0116 without hesitation. The peace of mind that comes with having three doses of a professional-grade cleaner is worth the extra space in your trunk. Knowing that your fuel injectors and intake valves are being treated with a heavy-duty formula that also includes a towel for cleanup makes it the safer, more reliable choice for long-distance travel. While the Generic Car System Cleaner is excellent for simple, regular maintenance, the robust nature of the Berryman kit ensures your engine performs optimally under the stress of extended driving conditions. In my opinion, it is the smarter investment for anyone taking their car on a serious journey.
Yes, the 3-pack bundle contains a professional-strength formula designed to dissolve heavy gum and varnish in older engines, whereas the generic version focuses on lighter, routine deposit removal.
No, you should not mix these products. Use one or the other based on your needs; the Berryman kit is meant for deep cleaning, while the generic is for standard upkeep.
It includes a branded shop towel for wiping spills and cleaning parts, but neither product requires special tools as both are simply poured directly into the fuel tank.
