As a former Planning Board member and Vice Chairman from 2004 to 2012, he played a pivotal role in shaping the town's land-use policies and development strategies. Additionally, his tenure as a Site Plan Review Board member and Chairman in 2015 exemplifies his hands-on approach to facilitating responsible growth and infrastructure enhancements.

Furthermore, Nelson's leadership extends to the business community, where he has been an active participant and advocate for over four decades. As a member and former President of the Maple Shade Business Association from 2001 to 2005, he has championed initiatives to support local entrepreneurs and stimulate economic vitality. His exemplary service as a Maple Shade Advisory Board of Commerce member and Chairman from 2008 to 2012 further demonstrates his commitment to fostering a vibrant business environment.

Beyond his civic and professional endeavors, Nelson has proudly served his country as a United States Army Sergeant E-5, embodying principles of duty, honor, and service. As a lifelong resident of Maple Shade, he has deep roots in the community and a profound understanding of its unique needs and aspirations.

In addition to his public service and entrepreneurial pursuits, Nelson is a devoted family man, cherishing his role as a husband and father to four adult children and twelve grandchildren. In his leisure time, he indulges his passion for cars as a dedicated car enthusiast, particularly enjoying leisurely rides in his beloved Shelby Cobra.
