The Slovak-Taiwan Hydropower Research Laboratory (STHPRL) was officially set up in 2021 as a research subdivision of the Design Practice Office of STUDIO Ltd. However, the roots of the research activities stretch back to 2011, when the first complex mapping of the Taiwanese Hydropower plants took place. Since then, the original mapping task has expanded, and the laboratory is now handling more complex tasks such as identification and excavation of historical sites or consultation, design, and advising on hydropower machinery import-export.The laboratory gathers engineers, architects, and local enthusiasts to form a piece of complex, tangible information on the given topics. Štefan is an associate professor of architecture, urban and concept design. He is a former chair of architecture and civil engineering at the American University of Phnom Penh, Cambodia, and an advisor to the rector’s office at the Technical University of Kosice on international academic relationships in South and Far East Asia.

He holds an EUR ING diploma along with the International Society for Engineering Pedagogy ING PAED IGIP title.

His most significant accomplishments as a professional include:

Fulbright Visiting Scholar to the University of Arizona – College of Engineering; dual PhD from the Technical University of Košice, the Slovak Republic, and Chung Hua University, Hsinchu, Taiwan R.O.C.; PhD in both the Theory of Designing Buildings and Environment and Civil Engineering. CEO of an international architectural company, STUDIO Ltd.; founder of the first Slovak academic international branch campus. Head of the Slovak-Taiwan hydroenergy research lab and the author of the first complex mapping of Taiwanese hydropower plants. Štefan is also a member of the Asian Network of Industrial Heritage.

鄧宗文 / Eric DENG

Associate Researcher 副研究員

Eric is a Green Energy Technology Application Group graduate from the Department of Electronic Engineering at Cheng Shiu University (CSU). Recently, Eric has been working with the Taiwan Television Corporation and Taitung Broadcasting Station, and he is an associate researcher with the "Slovak/Taiwan Hydropower Research Laboratory."

He is the author of a special book commemorating the 100th anniversary of the Taitung Electrical Industry.

Since 2018, he has been a special reporter and long-term contributor to the Taipower Journal, with a focus on the history of hydro and thermal power plants. Eric is also interviewing people connected to energy development in Taiwan and mapping the history of each substation.

In 2019, Eric was a lecturer for the Taipower Intermediate Supervisor Liberal Arts Course and, in 2022, an invited speaker at the Asian Network of Industrial Heritage (ANIH) seminar on the development of hydropower industrial heritage.

西克米 / Seakmy Ty

Associate Researcher 副研究員

Seakmy is a master's student in Smart and Resilient Cities at Junia Graduate School of Science and Engineering in Lille, France, with a strong foundation in architecture, sustainable design, and planning. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in architecture from the American University of Phnom Penh, Cambodia.

Her professional experience spans architecture, urban design, and technical documentation for companies in Cambodia, Singapore, and Slovakia, as well as research with the Urban Design Lab, headquartered in the United States. She has contributed to climate-resilient design projects, international architectural competitions, and research on urban-port connections, including an authored abstract accepted for the Waterlines 2025 International Conference in Italy.

As a draftsman for the Slovak–Taiwan Hydropower Research Laboratory, Seakmy is involved in proposing and designing powerhouse models, producing detailed technical drawings, and contributing to the lab’s ongoing work in documenting hydropower infrastructure.
