"Promoting coexistence with Sloth Bear"

About Project

“Aatmavat Sarvabuteshu” is an initiative by the WCB Research Foundation for Sloth bear conservation in its western most distribution range through community outreach to promote coexistence. Our approach is to develop two-way communication including all perspectives to evolve the fine quality of knowledge and disseminate it to spread true science. More than 150 sloth bear attacks have occurred in the last decade and it is still prevalent in the area, which has made people hostile and intolerant. Hence our goal is to increase the tolerance among people for the presence of sloth bears in their vicinity. In this project Aatmavat Sarvabhuteshu we link sentiments with conservation under which several activities are being taken up. Along with outreach and education, we are also conducting research on various aspects of sloth bear ecology such as movement patterns, habitat occupancy, food and feeding ecology, microbiology and physiology to understand population health. The project is supported by The Serenity Trust, The Bear Trust International and European Association for Zoos and Aquaria (EAZA).
