We are so excited to share this recipe for Spooky Slime! We just shared our recipe for DIY Flubber last week and this recipe is very similar. This recipe is perfect for Halloween and would be really fun to make and put in small containers to hand out to trick-or-treaters!
So much fun, right? This stuff is just so easy to make and my kids LOVE it! Their favorite thing to do when we make slime is to put their toys in it, so the fact that they were able to add these fun googly eyes totally made their day! We made two batches, one green, and one orange and mixed them together!

I tried the recipe two ways. The first time I made it with 1 cup of water and 1 Tablespoon of Metamucil and it had a stretchier, softer, slime consistency. But it did stick to the hands ever so slightly more.
I think I figured out the problem with the soupy slime. Our first batch turned out that way because the kids started stirring right as soon as I poured the borax water into the glue mix. The second time we let it sit for a while and everything came together beautifully.
I didn't even know Elmer's made clear glue! How fabulous! I use to be a "science birthday party entertainer" here in Manhattan and have made slime by the gallons with kids. It was pure awesomeness! My advice/reminders for parents is it is only glue, soap (borax), and food coloring. Food coloring is the only thing that might stain, everything else cleans up easily. And Elmer's brand is the only way to go, other brands never worked as well in my many years of slime making.

We also had a mishap with some slime on a fabric footstool. It was found after it dried and I was at a loss as to how I should even begin to get it off. After trying a carpet cleaning solution I came across your tip about vinegar. Since the slime was dry I took a rag and soaked it in white vinegar and left it on the spot on the footstool until it was thoroughly saturated. Then with an old toothbrush and a little more vinegar, I was able to gently scrub the slime off! I was thrilled! Thank you for your helpful post! I prefer 2 by 2 slime chunks, around chunk -48,-17 (-766 X, -270 Z) is a good example for your seed. Although you may wish to consider a less optimal one near your base over a perfect one far away. What are the coordinates of your base?
All mobs can spawn up to 128 blocks away, but can potentially despawn closer. This distance is spherical. Also, outside of a swamp biome, slimes will only spawn at Y 40 and below and in any lit level. Keep in mind that other hostile mobs that will spawn in a 128 block radius will count towards the hostile mob limit. Lighting up nearby caves will help prevent that. Also, making the slime farm multiple levels and keeping it light will improve slime spawning rates. Mobs will start spawning around 24 blocks away.
More spawning spaces will make for a more efficient mob farm. However, like lotus49 said, a slime farm does not need to be perfect to be more than adequate. Also, as I mentioned in an earlier post, lighting up caves near your slime farm will dramatically increase spawn rates. If you do not want to light up caves, you will need more slime chunks with more layers for it to be effective.

What is the absolute most optimal and MAX configuration of slime-chunks?
- Is it just as many slime-chunks as possible within the 8 chunk radius spawning sphere of the player?
- Or is there an optimal number of slime-chunks to farm based on the standard 70 mobs/player cap?
- And would that optimal number change depending on how many players are AFK'ing the farm?

Finally, add your borax solution. I showed you in this tutorial how I make mine. Because everyone uses different solutions, my best advice is to add just a bit at a time.
